Remember ya‘ll announced the „iPhone Ultra“ 3 years ago… that never showed up, too.
Except that a lot of people have been begging for an OLED, and a lot of people would like thinner. So they will keep it around, or even worse add touchscreen to the rest, because that’s what people want, when really it was the OLED, or thinness that attracted them. That would actually be a good compromise. Keep the MacBook Pros the way they are and introduce this as a MacBook Ultra. And it will make it easier to make it disappear again when Apple realizes that nobody needs OLED, a touchscreen or a thinner and lighter design.
The funny thing is If they just gave the iPad Pro Mac OS support this product basically already exists.
I think I see where this is going.
Back in 2012, Apple had spec updates to their MacBook Pro lineup in both 13 and 15 inch models. Simultaneously, they also released a new 15” Retina MacBook Pro, at a higher price point.
Then a year later, the 13” got the Retina display. After that, the non retina models were phased out.
The 2016 and 2021 models were redesigns and not an entirely new model, which this might be with both OLED and a touch screen. So they might have this be the highest end for a year or two and then slowly phase out the 2021 design, which would still be sold refurbished.
Keyboard backlight getting removed from the Air & Pro.
I think it also satisfies those who want a Pro or Max chip without paying through the nose for an even higher end display with possibly irrelevant touchscreen, especially if thinner and lighter comes with a smaller battery. It makes sense, but also doesn't. With the expected launch being about 6 months from now, being an entirely new series of MacBook makes sense as a way to not completely piss off M5 Pro/Max buyers. But in that same vein, the target demographic for this machine is the same prosumer/professional as those just released Pros...
This isn't fragmentation, this is "consumer choice".Timmy continuing to fragment any lineup he can. As long as they don't make the Pro line worse, it's fine.
Thats a variation on the PowerBook G5 joke.

Apparently we're getting a Studio Display Ultra as well. It boasts a foldable 2x32" display with dynamic bezels and the most satisfying click when it snaps open. Also completely new is the refresh rate and pricing. Both will be revealed only to serious customers upon request, which will make the loudest critics here cry.
Exactly!!Touch doesn't work on macOS. It can't work. It wasn't designed for that. Nobody wants that!
Posting a leaked document is not prediction.Well, he DID predict the name of the MacBook Neo. he didn’t? Well, he nailed the release of updated Siri. No? Ummm, he was one of the many predicting there would be an uptick in store traffic… no? Just him? And he was wrong?
Well, ahh ok his name is Gurman? That one’s true… right?
The Pros and Ultra should get one of the multi-format slots which support SD. CF, and XQD.will the ULTRA forgo the SD card slot because FUTURE ?
Exactly!!
So why is Apple bringing out touch screen for laptop? Is Apple planning on putting iPadOS on it or bringing out new OS?
