It requires both devices to be on the same local network, which isn’t necessary for Apple’s cross-device C&P feature, and likely won’t be required for what Microsoft wants either.
Haven't thought of that but yeah it needs all devices to be on the same lan. But for local lan use it's perfect and faster than airdrop.

Fall of '27? Will windows still be around by then?!?

(I jokingly say this as someone who uses multiple windows devices, but has seen Microsoft and Windows struggle over the last several years.)

suppose it shows my age, but I've used either attachments to email or in the distant past FTP (probably seems like drawing on a cave wall to you)

It just shows har far we’ve come, as now it is Microsoft that is having to go to regulators to get people to play nice with them. Windows rose to dominance in part because of anticompetitive practices. Like how Office always lacked feature parity with the Windows version, and it’s still not on Linux at all.

Dear Microsoft, please also submit a request to Apple to fix their handoff copy-paste and airdrop bugs between two Apple devices. These two key features have never worked properly since their introduction. I and my family regularly experience issues with airdrop and handoff on different Apple devices despite endless OS updates.

I’ve never actually seen anyone using Windows. Does Microsoft still exist?

On the other hand, I’d really love to see clipboard sync between Android and macOS…
