That last icon gives me Saturday Night Fever flashbacks.

Yep, the original Apple Watch included a number of trial balloons (looking at you, Digital Touch). That’s why I said, “doesn’t do many trial balloons”, and not “doesn’t do any trial balloons”. I also remember Steve standing on stage introducing “iPod Socks”, and you could tell from his tone that it was something he let the marketing people talk him into.

Apple socks...yeah...wow...and the infamous half holed iPhone cases for the iPhone 5c?

Those were pretty bad too!

I think this is the only part that makes it different. Why would I switch from Peleton to this?? Maybe if my watch could track my vitals and motion to make sure I am getting the workout right. I think it needs to be more than just a Peleton app with an Apple logo

Apple will need to recruit recognized "talent" for its sessions. That will make it more appealing.

I think Peloton has a few unique things that are barriers for any company (including Apple) to enter that market. First of all, they are becoming (or have become) the brand name for home spin bikes. Kind of like how we in the US typically refer to a tissue as a "Kleenex" whether or not it's from Kleenex, Puffs, or another brand. Second, they create and own their content - all of those live classes are available for instant on demand. True, there could be some issues around music licensing fees again, but that's a containable threat. Three, their entire ecosystem is fully integrated with their brand -- the hardware and software work in tandem. Kind of like a Cupertino-based company we all love. :)

Sure, an Apple Fitness app would be neat but they have a ways to go before they knock Peloton from the top spot. As someone else mentioned, it would be easier to buy Peloton and re-brand/morph the Peloton ecosystem into Apple.

The issue for Peloton will be the pricing. How many Peloton bikes are sold vs Apple devices? How many Peloton owners already have Apple devices? Is it easier for Apple to sell a low priced fitness instruction service than Peloton?

Apple should leave fitness to those who know about fitness and are in the business already. They want to be every thing at the same time. I guess that won't turn out well (for Apple).

Yep...Apple sold 30 million watches last year.

I remember back in the early 2000s, Motorola/Ericsson/Nokia (commonly referred to as MEN in the cellular telecom industry) owned the handset market. And then Apple came along with their phone in 2007. The rest is history.

If Apple wants to get get more entrenched in the fitness/health market, the company certainly has the infrastructure and ability to do so.

I hope this means that the Health and Activity/Fitness apps will finally make their way to iPadOS and macOS.

Personally I use the Peloton bike and app and really like them a lot. It’s not something I would look for from Apple, and Peloton already does it REALLY well across the bike, tread, yoga, weights, stretching, foam rolling, outdoor, bootcamp, meditation, etc. I am surprised Apple didn’t try to acquire them.

This could be interesting but there are a lot of other things I would be more interested from Apple.
