The interface is already caught up.
It would be nice if Apple just buys the Waze app, and replace Apple Maps with it. At least for driving, Waze is so much better than Apple Maps.

Because Google is going to stop working on their Maps?
Why on earth is Apple still pouring so much money into Apple Maps? What is the end game? It's not one of their primary products, Google will have an advantage for the forseeable future, and even diehard Apple fans like me prefer Google Maps over Apple Maps.
It's not going to help you sell products, it's not going to generate significant revenue. It's just a waste of time and money.
Stop, and put the money elsewhere.
Only UI thing I would improve is highlighting the ability to print turn by turn directionsActually, Apple's map interface is, and always has been, infinitely superior to Google's. Their Achilles heel is data, not UI design.

Example:
Here are Google's and Apple's map views of the Met3 building completed two years ago:
Apple needs to relax and let us choose our own defaults already... I hope it happens in IOS 11.Apple Maps is probably the biggest failure of Apple. Their map data is way behind times. Their satellite imaging is 2 or even 4 years old in certain areas. They seem to be getting their data from TomTom, and they are not any better. At this rate they will never catch up with Google.
Instead of trying to improve their map data first, they are spending time with useless stuff like Flyover and 3D maps. Apple's priorities are puzzling. Hey Apple, where are the emojis for the maps?
With IOS 10 allowing us to delete system programs, Apple Map was the first one I deleted. Too bad I can't set Google Maps as the default map program.
I'm honestly not sure anymore how many Apple products I'll be using in the next two to three years. Better map data isn't going to change that either.
I'm sorry but if you need your iPhone to navigate the interior of an airport...you are just useless and sad. There are things called signs that have worked for hundreds of years. If people looked away from their phones for five minutes they might learn how to move from room to room.
And don't bother telling me Airports are hard to navigate...I've been to many Airports all over the world and in the US. I've never had a problem finding my way. They are not hay mazes.
That is common across the different platforms. One area will have updated images / maps on one platform, but not the other. Over time if you watch a given area you will see Apple, Bing, and Google Leapfrog each-other with satellite images.
In my case, Bing has the most updated satellite images of my house, where Google and apple show a truck I no longer own sitting in my driveway. Yet jump ~30 miles away where my office is, A cooling tower we had installed shows up on Google and Apple, yet not on Bing.
And before signs people used the stars. Thank goodness I and the rest of the unwashed masses have tour guidance.
Google bought Waze years ago, lol.
Good to know.Google bought waze couple years back.
Use Google street view in any major city in Germany, hello 2008.Apple Maps is probably the biggest failure of Apple. Their map data is way behind times. My point was that Apple should resolve their map product's most glaring and long standing deficiencies before they invest in adding new gimmicky features with questionable real world benefits. Apple Maps is years behind competing products in the accuracy of their satellite imagery and the solution requires neither years of data gathering nor application of trendy new technologies. All it requires is for Tim Cook to loosen his death grip on the company's coffers and pay for current satellite data.
I use google maps for indoor mapping of shopping malls so I have a better idea of where to park based on the store(s) I want to go to.I'm sorry but if you need your iPhone to navigate the interior of an airport...you are just useless and sad. Apparently apple also wanted to buy waze but google beat them to it.Good to know.
Well, I guess Apple was too late, or figured that they would improve on Apple Maps.
Even though Waze is not always perfect, it is the best app I have used for navigation. I just wished it worked with CarPlay, because Apple Maps sucks big time.
Yup, I have put in searches that are next to me yet I get something in Sweden...What they really need to work on is the most important part: understanding which part of what I entered is the street name, the name of the business, the street number and the post code. Google always gets this right, while Apple maps pretty much never gets it right. Google Maps is like doing a Google Search, while Apple Maps is like doing a search on Reddit. Even if you type it perfectly correctly sometimes it will give you a result on the other side of the globe, sometimes it will give you 25 results even though there is on obvious one, and sometimes it will give you no result at all. This is why I no longer use it, even though I tried, I really did, and I still check back on it every once in a while, and it isn't improving at all in this regard.
