Because Abbey Road was the last thing The Beatles recorded. Jobs was a big Beatles fan. So there ya go! It's just the kind of choice that would have been made in a dorm room in 1972, high as a kite... "If they ever put out a complete collection, obviously Abbey Road goes last, man." (takes another big hit). "Absolutely".

:D

It's what any good Beatles fan would do.

We get the point Apple, you now have the Beatles' music. STOP promoting them so much. There are billions of other artists that have music for sale on iTunes.

Thank you for not trying to convince me NOT to like them,or imply I'm a tasteless idiot for doing so.
Might as well try to convince me that chocolate tastes bad,but some people don't get that.

Stating an opinion about art or music as an objective fact is just plain stupid obnoxious and rude.If that was your goal you got an A+.

This man gets the "Tool of the Year" award. Congratulations!

Well done series of transitional morphs. Sure Paul and Ringo had at least a final nod to it.

Im surprised there is still a large enough market for The Beatles. I mean most people I know just got hand-me downs from their parents.

Go to any boot fair/ second hand shop and the shelfs are loaded with this kind of music sometimes less than the cost of one track from iTunes.

Oh well, some things are just not meant to be understood.

Are they still trying to sell the Beatles?

surprised that they're still pushing Beatles.

Do you know, every ten years or so, the Beatles are rediscovered. Funny thing that, but it seems to keep happening. Some teen says, "What were the Beatles?" and their parent or grandparent gives them a listen, and suddenly, the Beatles are back in vogue for a year or two. So there might, indeed, be those out there to sell Beatles music to--like those who have only been listening to Justin Bleber :p

That said, I think wondering why Apple is still trying to sell the Beatles misses the point. Yes, they are trying to sell the Beatles. But they're also trying to sell iTunes. And this, by the way, is a glorious, fabulous, marvelous commercial which does just that. The animation is clever and fun, the trip and flow makes us enjoy the ride and the music. Most especially, it shows us how albums come to life for us, and bring us to life in turn.

And the Beatles is a good group to use for this message because not only are they and their album covers familiar, but their album covers make for good animation. Other artists, not as well known or with dull album covers, wouldn't have made for such a dynamic commercial, however great their music.

So, no, the ad may not make us want to buy the Beatles if we've already got all the Beatles we want--or aren't fans of their music. But what it does do, brilliantly, is make us think of music, albums, bands we do like. And gives us that itch to go to iTunes and check out music we do want. It does this by reminding us of how music can feel and be. How each album from an artist (artists) can have it's own personality--each to match what we're after at any given time. It reminds us of how music an come alive, and how we dive into it.

It's an awesome ad, and I hope they do it with the body of work from other artists who are, if not equally familiar, can offer similarly dynamic album covers.

Joking, right?

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised at the Abbey Road love...it has maybe the most iconic album cover, but only Come Together and Octopus's Garden seem to be great.

The most influential (and IMO best) part of the album is the "Abbey Road medley" ("She came in through the bathroom window," "Polythene Pam," etc.) on what I still think of as "Side 2" of the album.

The graphics are pretty good in this spot. Not sure what software they used. Seems a bit sophisticated for prosumer stuff, though I've tried and so have some friends and gotten close but not that sophisticated. Maya, After Effects?

Motion or After Effects.

I really like that ad. Very well done. Feel sorry for the animators though :p
I would like to see an old school silhouette style ad where they play twist and shout

They're their biggest cash cows.

Even though the Beatles are one of the worst bands that ever existed, I think that Apple ad was very well done. Short, no seconds wasted and get's the point across very well.

Nobody cares what you think.

The Beatles were revolutionary and insanely talented songwriters...back in their era. Can we please get over it already? It's 2011, and people still lose their **** over them like it's still the 60's. At least this is just selling their music. I'm so sick of seeing commercials with Beatles tunes in them. They're great, and deserve respect; but they are overrated in my opinion.

The Beatles revolutionized music as we know it.

How old are you?
