Has anyone used Microsoft's Photosynth app? I took some cool panoramic images using it on my 4S and they look pretty amazing. It's 360 degrees as well using the gyro to keep track of position.

Just like in real life!

Pretty cool, though I noticed that it gets confused if you sweep it overhead -- you wind up looking at the opposite side upside down, and have to sweep it back overhead to get right side up again.

Just think, if you did that in real life, you'd probably fall over. How realistic! ;)

I don't know if these are any good, but they're exactly the type of head I've seen used by the Last Shuttle guys.

Pretty much the best IMHO.

There's a very big 360VR community out there (many of which are apple based) , of which Wkaemena is one.

I think this post will get quit a bit of attention!

While possible that this was stitched from multiple images there would have been a great deal of postproduction to deal with the time delay and movement of people between the shots
It's more likely that a panoscan (or similar) was used, this scans a continuous 360° exposure. The fact that people walking from left to right are more blurred than those walking right to left supports this, suggesting an anticlockwise scan

There are games on the iPad that do the same thing
I play them sitting in a swivel chair and when I want to shoot at something behind me I just spin the whole chair around

A couple of examples are Rainbow Six and Nova 2

Actually you only need one camera to do a shot like this. It's done by putting your camera on a special head which is then placed on a standard tripod....

The sad part of this is that you can do the same thing with an iPod Touch (which I have used) or iPhone and the 360 Panorama App nowadays. You don't need a special head or even a tripod!

I have used both the Microsoft Photosynth and the 360Panorama apps and they are scary good. I likea the Occipital 360 Panorama app just a bit more, because it does the gyro-thang.... and it will produce full 360º photographs (ceiling to floor, left and right).... in about 90 seconds.

Here are some more examples of full screen 360 panoramic images that work on the iPad and iPhone. The text is not in English, but just click on the animated examples or the text links at the bottom of the page. There are about 40 examples in total.

Most noteworthy are the 360 inside a car and the 360 inside a church.

They are real 360x180 degrees, which means you can look straight up and straight down without a visible tripod.

Have fun! :)

Yes, and it's pretty cool. I just wish it made higher resolution images -- it loses a lot of detail.

Haha their retail devision operates separately from their engineering teams. And let's be honest, they have enough money to run as many concurrent projects as they want.

No, they don't. All the engineers were sent with brooms to New York to clean out the new store before it opened, and the iPhone 5 will delayed by weeks because of that. :D

This is cool and all but can Apple please just focus on the iPhone 5. I don't think anyone was really wanted this.

To be fair, it's not as if development of future products comes to a halt when someone makes a 360 degree panorama file.

Edit - Oops! Sorry 42streetsdown, I didn't see your post before writing mine.
