Apple has posted an MPEG-4 video-on-demand stream of today's special announcement. It is unclear whether it will be broadcasting live or whether it will be a replay of the event as Apple has done in the past and as AppleInsider has claimed. Either way, MacRumors will be providing coverage of the event as it unfolds using our state-of-the-art MacRumorsLive service.

Also, as many of you have already noticed, the Apple Store has gone down for updates.

When i click on the link for the quicktime stream it does say live stream paused. would this indicate that it is a live stream? What time is the event starting?

it says "Live Broadcast" when loaded in QT...

Why wouldn't it be live?

The iTunes Music Store has been down for the greater part of the morning. The reason? iTunes Music Store will be rebranded as ‘Showtime’. Additional info:

* Welcoming of Media Members
* Discussion on iTunes software, iTMS integration into iTunes, and iTMS sales and facts.
* Announcement of iTunes version 7.0
* Announces better search feature for Music Store
* Announces Movie Store. Available Immediately will be movies from Disney and Pixar, among other studios.
* New iPod Nano Announcement (nice brushed casing, while it will have same features as first gen, only a longer battery life)
* New iPod Announcement (Widescreen, Bluetooth, and featuring virtual touchweel. Does not include Wi-Fi, or any other protocols)
* One More Thing….TubePort. A $99 2-piece set that includes a dongle that connects via USB to your mac, and another dongle that connects via included HD cables or regular Component cables to your TV. The movie is accessed on your Mac via an iDisk-like storage component hosted by Apple.

Frequent the Apple iTunes page for the download of iTunes 7 when it is made available. And after that, check out the Apple Store for product releases ;)

So is this the link to streaming for the media? Just wondering 'cause that font is quite un-Apple like used for "Apple Special Event".

And the WWDC stream was probably used to test the live stream was indeed working properly.

Wow, if this is indeed live that's great! I haven't seen a live broadcasted presentation from Jobs in quite a while, probably since the last WWDC or MWSF which was done live a couple years ago.

For some reason, one of the four ads at the bottom of the main Apple page is missing when I go there.

If it does end up being streamed "live" can you imagine the struggle everyone will have attempting to log on and watch. The drop outs on a non-live Apple event after they're posted is bad enough!

the quality of the stream was quite high before the test stream went down. This is a screen capture of the test stream on cable earlier in phoenix.
