Then why can’t iPhones run it unless you have 15 Pro or newer? Even people who bought an iPhone 15 a few months ago have an iPhone that will not run ChatGPT = “Apple non-intelligence” because Apple wants to sell more iPhones. That is the real joke in all of this.
I mean.... Apple IS in the business of selling stuff.

You can request ChatGPT to behave just like that, if you want. The whole hey buddy routine is just fluff and decoration. If you want just a list of results, you can get that. If you want a uWu senpai style convo, you can have that. It's just like zombo dot com!

I have no idea what those words mean and never heard of zombo, but either way, until chatGPT starts training only on data they have explicit opt-in permission, from the creator, to train on... no thank you.

Oh, and run by someone else other than Sam Altman. Not touching a service that he is affiliated with, and I'm pretty disappointed in Apple being willing to link up with his ilk.

Any phone that can connect to the App Store can run chatGPT. Their app is available for all.

without all the human-esque superfluous chatter.

Oh I get that, but I have mine modified quite a bit - if it can give a one word answer it does, if I want to elaborate it does but in strict factual way.

I had it proof read for me in MY style of writing, it'll fix grammar, typos and mistakes and also make sentences flow better if possible whilst keeping my style.

I've used it code entire custom back end web apps for my business

I've used for an on going legal case to both help write my evidence and statements but also to decide how powerful and good they and what order to put them in - it's like a free experience solicitor right there.

I've learnt Spanish with it and specifically Dominican Spanish to come up with local phrases and slang whilst I was there.

I've named things, i've designed things, i've brainstormed things, i've argued things, i've disputed things - i've sent it pictures of things and found out stuff I could have never know. I've had health advice. I've asked it questions you couldn't possibly Google easily. I've given it mountains of data and asked it to provide me the answer with what i've sent saving me hours of time. I've built scripts and apps with it that help me save time on a daily basis. I once gave it a PDF with all the road closures the highways authority had published for the week and at what time they were affected along with a written list of directions for a long journey i had to make in the early hours of the morning and asked if it any of my route would be affected by closures.

I owe my entire life to the internet. If it wasn't for the internet I couldn't run my current business. I wouldn't have been able to do the one before it and I wouldn't have been a music producer and audio engineer at all.

I really hope there is an option to switch LLM providers, really don't want to use ChatGPT at all! Would rather be using Gemini, just prefer its quality better and trust them more then Sam Altman's company these days. No big tech is great.. but ChatGPT seems to be the worst these days.

Due to factors like on-device processing, "Apple Intelligence" requires more RAM, A17 Pro or A18 chips, etc. It's possible that Apple will introduce a "lighter" version of "AI" in the future that can be used on older phones.

Apple can't win here.

If Apple doesn't offer new iPhone "features", people complain that the new phones are boring, it's the same thing year after year, there's no reason to upgrade, etc.

If Apple does offer new iPhone "features", people complain that they have to upgrade, Apple is doing it to just sell iPhones, Apple is just in it for the money, etc.

They can. ChatGPT is all cloud based. You won't get Siri integration but you can already basically do that with the app. Adding ChatGPT capability to Siri is really the least interesting and ground breaking part of Apple Intelligence.

The on device stuff requires more ram which is why only phones with at least 6gb can do it, whilst it's back dated to all M based Macs for the last 6 years. It's really not that bad.

I now pay $20.00 monthly for ChatGPT Plus. I wonder if I cancel the app subscription if will I get the same features. Any input? Thanks
I'm wondering this as well. I don't currently have a subscription to ChatGPT but am considering one. On the free plan, I'm limited to two images a day so I'm wondering with the integration if that same limitation would apply. Maybe there will eventually be a deal where you if you have Apple Intelligence you pay a fee to Apple and ChatGPT gets a cut.

I guess you should be immediately made CEO of Apple with such wisdom. Personally, I will leave every feature on.

The problem with Apple linking up with chatGPT is that they are a really, really ethically troubled company run by a complete techbro charlatan who is straight-up ripping people off with his current other ventures like WorldCoin. They (Open AI) have no problem ripping off authors, creators, artists and others without any permission or ability to opt-out, for nothing but their profit. I can't support that.

Before you start complaining: NOBODY is forcing y’all to use this feature.
You know how it works when you buy an iPhone? The price you pay is included both hardware and software. So when you buy an iPhone you actually pay also for software and Apple Intelligence in itself. It’s like a buying a car which drives poorly. What would you do if you would hear from a car seller: nobody is forcing you to drive?

It's time to give Siri's little peanut brain a rest after many years of faithful substandard service. Ride out into that sunset Siri. You served mediocrely.
There's a lot of companies out there with customer/employee facing software with a peanut brain. It's pathetic, really.

Does Apple Intelligence make the phone "drive poorly"? I would argue it's more like adaptive cruise control - there to make your drive more pleasant if you so please, but completely out of the way if you can't figure out how to turn it on.

This just sums up most people on this website / the internet in general. You can't win. Ever.
I cannot agree with you enough. MR and the Internet will complain about free ice cream.

Is everyone just sick of Apple or technology as a whole? If it’s the former, please point me to the most exciting tech company where I direct my attention.

It’s all a moot point for me. I am not paying $20 a month for a better Siri. I will continue to use Ollama on my Mac when I need Ai as it is free and runs locally.

Do you have a source that says Apple will be charging $20 a month for Siri?

I don't want a link for a rumor. I want cold, hard, facts.

That ice cream isn't free, someone has to pay for it! And I'll be damned if my taxpayer money goes towards pistachio of all flavors! /s

I genuinely think most people are just burnt out on tech. It has invaded every aspect of our lives and now we're bitter towards it. Remember when computers were interesting and it was always an experience to use one? Now we all live in Excel.

That's me, I'm just completely burnt out on tech and the tech industry, Apple included. I don't like the way the industry has been moving for years, across the board. The VC-funded freemium, coming-soon, move fast and break things, subscription, data-gathering and general nonsense has just, more-or-less, turned me off the from the entire tech world. It's not just age, even my teenager is bored with tech.

I still keep up, but have zero enthusiasm about it anymore, and have been completely disconnecting more and more as of the last year.

I haven't been disconnecting, but more focused on making the tech get out of the way so I can live and do the things I want to do. I personally think AI, especially Apple Intelligence with it's more practical approach, will prove to be a very useful means to that end.

So Apple will be getting the $20 Billions from the ChatGPT for integrating into its Siri! They are missing the Google Payout of $20 billions in their default Search Settings and this may be a good opportunity to charge ChatGPT for making their system available in iPhones!

According to all the sources I've read since iOS 18 was announced, there is no money currently exchanging hands.

Monetary agreements like that are becoming pretty risky and Apple best keep away from it, as they are currently being sued by the US government and I'm sure they would love to expand their case.

And if you cannot understand the difference between machines that do what we tell them i.e. computers replacing typewriters, and LLMs that just regurgitate words that may or may not be true, but that are definitely biased based on who trained them, then the world will suffer, but not because of LLMs, but because of people.
Nope, I'm afraid it's just people like you who don't understand AI or its potential. Fortunately you will fail at being a technology road block.

We all knew this, but a friend that works for Google confirmed Gemini is coming much sooner rather than later...although even he didn't know when. Another interesting tidbit: Pixels may be getting a rebrand, which is crazy to me! They seem to be really gaining their own identity. Interestingly, Tokyo and Kyoto are their biggest markets.

While I'm in a good mood talking about ice cream and boring tech, maybe someone much smarter than me can explain this. There's a recent article about the fraying relationship between Microsoft and OpenAi — bottomless $$$ needs, computing power, etc. When ChatGPT is added to say several million iPhones, will their power needs increase exponentially? If so, who's paying who? Didn't Apple pass on the recent round of funding? I'm in total knots.

I'm afraid you and others in the tech world overestimate the potential and the interest of the public at large, and unfortunately seem to be okay with said AI training on others works without their permission, which I find absolutely abhorrent.

My theory is people on some internet forums are not able find happiness unless they're ragging on something. Very successful companies like Apple are great targets, providing an opportunity to feel empowered by sticking it to The Man.

Apple wasn’t sued for the monetary agreement, Google was. Apple's issue will be seeing the $20 billion/year gravy train likely come to an end (assuming it's not overturned on appeal) but they were lucky it lasted as long as it did.
