If digital delivery of newspapers becomes big, think of all the truck drivers and paper carriers that will lose their jobs.
I've never understood this argument. Oh sure, if it's your job, it's a dislocation that can be painful; I understand the emotions of that quite a bit. But 100 years from now the jobs people do will largely be different than the jobs we have now (just think back to what people did 100 years ago to get that perspective).
In other words, we are ALL going to have to face this situation sooner or later. What is the solution? Stifle progress? Or learn a new job?
I've switched careers in my time. Truck drivers will switch to other goods, and paper carriers will scale back. Hey, the New York Times owner said that the day is coming when the NYT won't be printed on paper any more. Electronic delivery is coming. Holding back to save current jobs makes as much sense as holding back automobiles 100 years ago to save livery jobs.
