I don't know what they did to screw it up (probably the way they implemented security patches), but the overheating issue and the battery randomly losing 10% or more of charge in 2 minutes was introduced with the 16.5.1 update. It's affecting all models to a different degree.

Other bugs almost don't matter if your phone overheats and starts losing charge, but there are plenty of them, including WiFi, Siri stops responding (the only fix is to restart the phone), maps can't get the GPS signal (Apple and Google maps), random shutdowns overnight, photos crashing while scrolling, etc, etc.

The quality of AirPods is very poor, too. Like clockwork, one of the AirPods becomes quieter after several months or longer, and this has been going on for years and is still an issue.
Wow. I'd take it back. Sounds like a faulty phone to me. I have had none of those issues with 16 or 17. None.

But what I don't get is how they break stuff that was working fine before
Complexities of coding? I don’t know.

Wonder if the snow weather widget bug is fixed. That one is just downright shameful. I’m a software dev and the only way that kind of thing happens is if A. You don’t test it as a developer and B. Your QA team fails you.

Further proof leetcode interviews don’t net you good developers.

Apple appears to be internally testing an iOS 17.1.1 update for the iPhone, based on evidence of the software in our website's analytics logs this week.

iOS-17.1.1-Feature.jpg

iOS 17.1.1 will almost certainly be focused on bug fixes, but it's unclear exactly which issues the update will address. The update could include the same fix for Wi-Fi connectivity issues that Apple rolled out in the first iOS 17.2 beta, and it could resolve an issue where some iPhones temporarily shut off overnight for users still experiencing that. Apple also promised to fix a BMW wireless charging issue affecting the iPhone 15 lineup in an update later this year, but it remains to be seen if that fix will be included in iOS 17.1.1.

It's unclear when iOS 17.1.1 will be released to the public, but our best guess is that the update will be available within the next week or two.

iOS 17.2 remains in beta testing, and is expected to be released in December, so iOS 17.1.1 will be a stopgap update. iOS 17.2 includes many new features and changes, including the promised Journal app, the ability for Apple Music subscribers to collaborate on playlists, a Translate option for the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro models, an iMessage Contact Key Verification security option, additional Weather and Clock widgets, and more.

God I hope they fix this WiFi issue asap in this release. This is ridiculous and poor Q&A at Apple

Hilariously missing the point. They release a buggy new version that causes issues every damned year. My point is stop doing that and instead once its a settled working system just release incremental changes and improvements.

It just works my a$$
As I'm still on 16.7.2, I'd just like iOS 16.x to work before I jump into the next fire.

I was hoping for 17.1.1, but I might wait until 17.2.1.

I think its great Apple is providing updates rather than before ignoring severe security flaws found and waiting too long to patch found issues. Why should phones be different to regular computers that are being patched at least once a month.

A big number of annoying little bugs to fix. Things like notes stop sorting checked items to the watch not showing apps on screen. This one, just tap the blank spot and the app is there, no picture. Amazing how sloppy Apple has become with their software development. A vast majority of the new software features, not sure why I would need them.

Noticing visual giltches with 17.2 on iPhone 15. In particular with Control Centre. Have found MacOS 14.1 to be glitchy too.

I think people's gripes are the actual support from Apple, there's no real voice or support network that can give the nitty gritty of what has actually been fixed, just the generalized terminology of "Bug Fixes" which drives some people mad.

But unfortunately it's not going to change, the secrecy will never change nor will the full steam ahead attitude of a new OS release every year, they just clean up the bugs that people shout loudest about every time first.

But look at the gaming industry aswell, every single game these days has a day one patch.

Humans unfortunately aren't infallible

I hope they fix the annoying random Passcode popup with iOS 17. That has kept me on iOS 16 until there's confirmation the problem has been fixed. I recently purchased an iPhone 13 from BB and did not see the Passcode prompt for Face ID until I installed iOS 17.

I exchanged the phone for another one running iOS 16 and so far no Passcode prompts. I'm also getting random Passcodes prompts on both my iPad's running iPadOS 17.

I still think they should be required to make every employee update THEIR iPhones/iPads/Macs and suffer before releasing this stuff on the poor unsuspecting public. :)

I'm another software engineer and I'd say it's just a server-side bug. WeatherKit returns "snow" instead of "snowflake", so there's no SF Symbol for "snow" but there is for "snowflake"

How about a fix for autocorrect? I feel like this has definitely gotten worse, unless my typing has just coincidentally gotten worse after the release of iOS 17 😐

The ONLY thing at this point that is keeping me from trading my iPhone 13 Pro for either a Pixel or S20whatever is the fact my X4 only supports CarPlay and not Android Auto. [insert profanity-laced tirade in German]

Will they fix the Apple Music bug where play counts and last played haven't been updated in over a week?
Please fix this soon! Has anyone else reported this to Apple? If not please do.
Edit- my biggest regret about updating.

Here’s something new and exciting- Has anyone else experienced the contact names disappearing in messages, and all you see is the phone number (and picture if applicable)? Today in my messages, most contact names disappeared leaving only the numbers being displayed. I did a power cycle and the names were back. Every single message was with a contact saved in my phone

Going to update to 17.X at the last possible moment for my 14. Too many SW defects at this time. And I come from the embedded world….
