2 things:

1. It would be nice if Apple also appeased "whiners" by adding an "Awesome" category to go beside the Explicit category. The "Awesome" category could be filled with emulators, alternate web browsers, VNC servers, video cameras, [previously turn by turn GPS, MMS and tethering too]. Basically just all the cool stuff that's rejected for various reasons of "too good to be true". :p :(

2. Moreso than this explicit category, how nice would it be to have a "hide" button next to an app in iTunes? When you click it, it removes the app from EVERYWHERE in the store, except a list of "My hidden apps". That way, when you're scrolling through and see all the useless fart, non-free flashlight and other cookie cutter apps, you can (essentially), in one click, delete them forever from your appstore. You will only see them again if you go into your hidden apps page.

that end part would be....EXTRAORDINARY.

what if people do it on accident tho?

Is it that hard to apply some sort of age verification to that category? I mean then there won't be any problems with complaints.

Free Country - Ha!

The most interesting thing about this reply chain is that many of those who believe Apple should have an explicit category give freedom of choice as a primary reason. They are focused on the freedom of choice of individuals. What about the freedom of choice of the company/companies?

Apple also has freedom of choice. It has the choice of gaining or losing revenue by selling these materials. THAT is freedom.

The individual then has the choice to purchase or not purchase from Apple (or other companies based upon their choices). For example, I do not purchase Ben and Jerry's ice cream - EVER! I won't support the activities of the founders by providing them my revenues.

Fail

Even though I am completely for it, as you see from my previous posts, I just had to add this pic to the conversation.

wtf would an EXPLICIT app be anyways? anything explicit, i just want videos.

I installed an explicit app, just to see what they are about. The images are actually fairly benign.

The app is called 69 positions. It's not actually that bad. You put your name and your partners name in and it starts a game. The game has partner A perform a sexual act on partner B and provides just enough information to help you understand what you're supposed to be doing. Occasionally a scenario involving mutual action comes up.

Most of the content is already well known to people, but there are a few surprises in there. It's actually kind of fun, creative, and a little daring. It can definitely enhance an evening between partners through introducing new things and protracting the experience.

For regular porn on the iPhone, I don't have any, but if I really wanted to I don't think I would need an App to upload a porn file. I don't know what kind of stuff people are trying to sell through the App store, but it's pretty easy to view porn on just about any smartphone.

There's explicit content, and there's explicit content. The reality of the situation is that pressuring Apple (as a company) about what they sell in their App store is completely ineffective in stopping people from creating or accessing the content they are looking for.

That won't stop certain organizations from giving Apple a hard time though.

People DO have a choice. You don't see Apple banging at your door to buy they're favorites from the App Store.

I wish...

They're = They are.

Their is used when you are (you're) talking about an entity like a person or a company. Their iPod. Samsa chose to compete with Apple based on hardware that has more features and costs less, their strategy neglected to recognize the importance of iTunes and ease of content management.

There is used mostly when you're talking about location or place not representing entities, like that iPhone over there, over there by the pacheco tree.

Remember Thomas Edison Blue Amberol wax cylinder recordings? Well, if you ever get to collecting antique phonographs, you'll see similar censorship.

Edison had the first phonograph, but all the music on those old cylinder records were church music and really boring band marching music. There was no jazz, no contemporary music, nothing with feeling. All boring salvation army type stuff. Yuck.

Edison censored the type of music that would be put out on the blue amberol cylinders. It was a mistake. Nobody really cared, but it was a mistake.

Now I know there are many people against boobies etc, and I know Apple wants to take the high road, but it would be terrible if only DROID has the boobies. Make sure it's secured well from minors etc, and proceed with it Apple. It's the right thing to do.
