r... Just hope it has FCP on it :p

I know what you are saying, What good is a loaner if all you data and software are in the broken computer? Hopefully you've got backups and Time Machine can restore your data and apps.

I would think that the person who drops off the loaner would set it up for you from your backup. That' what our service techs do.

Joint venture? Sounds fun.

haaaaaaaa!

so how long did it take for you to find that picture? haha :D

This begs the question. Why is onsite repair and/or replacement not already included in Apple Care? If you take it out on a 15"+ MBP it is a substantial outlay for what is a rather basic return to base warranty.

WTF? What a pile of horse ****!

"priority access" over us lonely peons, eh? It's not like were spending thousands of dollars on your products, we understand that you need to charge even more to screw those who don't go with the service!!!

Are you serious?

If you're upset about Apple's policies why don't you go buy a PC at one of the "big box" stores and see how much better they treat you at their "Geek Squad" type desks.

It would be nice if they at least offered the option, yes.

My company provides server / desktop support to businesses of various sizes in our region. We do full spectrum support, as in hardware, software, printing, backups, unique requests, etc.

We charge $125 / hour with 25 hour contracted blocks purchased ahead of time. However we also not only have intimate knowledge of their environment with hardware / license / password tracking and remote management, but we actually know what we are doing.

Geniuses aren't even trained in server support, network management, or professional grade backup. The few that do have proficiency in such things are self taught, and those who have an interest in such things are quickly disappearing as they keep pushing Genius pay down and hiring less qualified people. I can't imagine how a Genius would show up on site and not have to spend excessive amount of time just getting familiar with the environment before they make any decisions.

The sad part about this is I know that we will actually have to compete with this service from unwitting potential clients who don't understand the needs of professional support.

Too bad nobody in small business uses Macs.

If macs are used anywhere in the business world it is definitely in small business.

They certainly are not very popular in the enterprise market, but for small graphic design, music production, web and mobile development firms macs are a popular choice...

Apple branding is off

The Joint Venture Apple logo usage, font kerning and I think even the font face is not in line with Apple branding standards. Is this an official image from Apple?

I kind of see this as kind of a Platinum Insurance Policy; not too much more. Am I missing something?

Considering AppleCare already offers on-site repairs for iMacs and MacPro's, I don't see the point of this at all. If I ever have a problem with my MacPro, there's absolutely no way I'm lugging it to a store, they're coming here. Same for all the iMacs that have problems at the college I work at, I call Apple and they send somebody to us.

i like the loaner computer idea. i'm currently typing on a 13 MBP which will be returned. My windows laptop is currently under repair. 3 weeks and counting.

Unfortunately, most Mac Geniuses who really know what's what, especially if they know exchange, etc, have moved on. Anyone with that skill usually won't stay happy with retail pay.

I'm friends with Genii who were hired in the first year of retail, when the title meant something. I don't know a single one who still works in a store; some moved to Cupertino, others have started their own businesses or moved to private firms.

I'll admit, this is a great first step.

However, as a small business owner who runs SBS- Genius's rarely know anything that resembles MS exchange/Server, etc- other than setting up iPhone/iPad.

Wow and I thought Applecare was a rip-off.

If you've ever needed to use your AppleCare, you wouldn't say it's a ripoff. I had two MacBook Pro batteries replaced, my Logic Board, my iPhone 3G, and two Airport Extremes. All of those cost me nothing out-of-pocket, and I only bought Applecare on my MacBook Pro. Needless to say, when I bought my MacPro recently, I of course got it. My Applecare paid for itself with those two batteries, and ten fold with the Logic Board.

I have a relative who had the Logic Board of his G5 iMac go out on a friday. Thankfully he took it in to Apple on saturday morning when they opened, they got the board in on sunday from another store, and he had his machine back sunday afternoon. If monday had rolled around and his iMac still hadn't been fixed, he woulda been screwed loosing hours upon hours of billable time. At least with it dying over the weekend he was able to relax and do yard work etc. and not really be behind in work much.

EXACTLY! If you don't move on to Cupertino you leave. Apple does nothing to really keep the smarter Genii.

i know several real estate offices, loan consultants (even use iPads), my dentist, my eye doctor insurance reps, and even a physical therapist use them. Why wouldnt small businesses use them?

Because it's a windows world? (and a PC universe)

Besides, Few developers write Vertical Market apps for OSX. No money in it. Macs will always be for a consumer market. Apple couldn't even sell business class servers anymore.

Woe is Apple on the corporate front.
