So this event is shaping up to be CES-lite (very lite) - another tablet/e-reader, another i5-based laptop and, perhaps a phone OS update (but no 3D TV, wireless TV, pico-projectors and other cool stuff). So what's all the fuss? :D

Because unlike the crap at CES, this stuff won't be crap. And it will all be stuff real people can actually buy shortly. Call me when you meet someone who owns a 3DTV and a pico-projector.

I'v got Nikon camera with projector. If you want, you can buy one too: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Coolpix-S1000pj-Digital-Accessory/dp/B002RSEW7U

You can buy 3D TV as well (http://www.focusedtechnology.com/philips-423d6w0200.html) but it's a little bit more expensive than the usual Apple crap (using your terminology)
;)

What makes the stuff shown at CES "crap"?

I thought some of the stuff shown at CES was good. It is a consumer electronics show after all and getting a glimpse of future tech is interesting.

Are we labelling CES crap because it lacks an Apple logo?

There were a few interesting things, but a lot of it is vaporware, and the rest is not particularly inspiring (I haven't seen much of a clamor for anything in particular that was presented there. 3D TV seemed to get the most buzz, but it will be a long while before that is a factor in most people's lives).

just one simple example of an iPhone app that'd be even better on a tablet: ColorSplash. Check it out. It works fine on the phone, but it'd be a superb app for doing what it does, on a bigger device.

What's the iPhone app YOU'd most like to see adapted for the tablet?

Spawn Illuminati! That would be epic on a larger screen.

An EPIC massive form of doodle jump. SOOOO many platforms.

i'm not sure if that was meant as a joke but I think a lot of games would resize nicely

my friends are hooked on Words with Friends and would love to see a bigger board and playing more than 2 people in a game.

i would add any of the drawing apps would be nice with a bigger canvas. plus of course safari and email.

Here - let me show you 4 tablets - that's like 4 times the wow factor..
"This is uh sort of uh a prototype, of a coming uh HP slate PC, which will be here later this year...later this year..."

unlike Apple who doesn't announce without a date. even if just the month. So it will be "this is the apple tablet. see what it does. the price will be. and it's coming out in March/June/July/Whenever". I know there are rumors about IT already being in full production which doesn't shock me at all. They would want at least a nice month to stock pile units and give apps folks time to get updates done. In fact, given the givens I still think we are looking at more like late March or as late as May to build up stock and content. But I don't think they will run it over a new iphone cause that would be murder on the retail folks. Unless the tablet is like the first phone, buy it and go (no set up cause it will be at home and/or the 3g is optional).

Is that place smaller than some of the other places they made similar announcements? This is the same place that Phil Schiller did the September event right?

Whatever. It's going to be madhouse come tomorrow morning though.
