Serious question: does anyone know if there’s a male symbol or a female symbol? Idk if they don’t exist or what the case is, but if they’re making a transgender one I’d assume the others are there somewhere, it’d be crazy to make an emoji for .1% of people before ones for the other 99%. I’ve looked for them though on several occasions where I wanted to use one of them, but I swear they aren’t there.

I came here looking to be all sarcastic and saying how you'd not done your research because I was SURE that I'd seen it before... but... no, there isn't one. Not readily available in the iOS Emoji Keyboard anyway... There IS ♀ and ♂ in the macOS Emoji Viewer, but I think they're just Unicode pictographs...

I'd guess that if Apple are going to create a ⚧ emoji, they'll do ♀♂ as well. Doesn't really make sense to do the ⚧ without the other two...

That said, I think you underestimate the number of people who are transgender/who will use that emoji. Definitely a lot more than .1% (or 1%? your maths doesn't quite add up 😅) of all people, including those who aren't transgender! It's good to see more representation within emojis.

Oh goodie goodie goodie goodie!
Actually that's my new post on any Apple Co. topic on this website. Go Tim!!!!!

At least we’ll soon have a search bar to sift through this 🛢🔥... until the day comes we can hide the 90+% of emoji that go unused

There is one! In iOS 14 that is... coming soon!

Transgender flag emojisis what this world needs to bring about equality for all
/s
Honestly we never needed any more emoji than smiling yellow faces. Because now everybody wants there turn at what’s consider an acceptable iteration of the next emoji

It's not meant to bring about equality, it's meant to share pride in people's identities. The same way that your profile picture is a flag, the transgender flag will be used by trans people to show their pride and represent their identities. There are already hundreds of country flags, this one is hardly any different, it just represents people directly as opposed to entire countries. (Yes I know you marked it as sarcasm, but still).

You don't have to know/remember about something to live with the effects of it, and those effects can be so embedded in everyday life that they get taken for granted. Global change from Covid doesn't have to be jarring or obvious in its connection. For example, lots of companies have been forced into a working from home model that they might otherwise never have tried, and some will see that remote working can work for them (especially if they've had to invest in infrastructure to support it). So some of those companies will continue to work that way post-Covid, so the demand for office space reduces resulting in a change to the make up of our cities. People spend less time commuting, so there's an impact on the environment and people's work/life balance changes as a result of that extra hour...

You could argue that Covid has only accelerated things that would eventually have happened anyway, but I think it's true to say that at any point in the next 100 years, our world will be different than it would have been if Covid hadn't happened.

How did we get onto this in an emoji thread?
Maybe, but people definitely overrate long term impacts when living through them in current events.

Yeah, why care about minorities in the w1st century? The outrage!
Can you read? I didn’t say that at all. I don’t care that they made one for people who don’t want the male/female symbols, that’s fine. It’d just be cool if the OG genders had symbols bc they’d probably be used by a lot more people. This is about emojis, it’s pretty inconsequential either way. Don’t get your panties in a wad over your SJW cause when nobody’s attacking it in the first place.

I don’t actually know an exact number, but I seemed to remember hearing a tenth of a percent in a documentary or article somewhere like 6 months ago. It definitely seems to be growing though so maybe it’s more than that now. I just left that .9% out on purpose just because I didn’t know what the exact number was.
But yeah, i don’t know a ton about the backend stuff with emojis and how they work as characters but I feel like I’ve seen them too, though they aren’t in apple’s emoji keyboard. I hope they’ll add them!

Love the office!

By now they should just translate the whole dictionary into a graphics one, and we will go full circle back to the Pharaoh days. I am not even kidding, some people send and response to messages with an "emoji sentence" ex. 🍔🍟?

Nothing gets people riled up like new emojis. Even better is when those people don’t realize that Apple doesn’t make the emojis, the Unicode consortium does. Apple simply adopts the Unicode standard because not doing so can lead to issues.

Its because everyone keeps quite on it but Apple tend to feature it, and Apple news websites like MacRumors keep reporting each additional emoji. Microsoft don't tend to make a fuss when they add the new emojis to Windows10.

Miscellaneous - … Boomerang … Transgender Flag

Stealing the Aboriginal Boomerang but not implementing the Aboriginal Australian flag.

I'm not sure if this is a problem not addressed by Apple or the Unicode consortium.

Just as cultural sensitivity is being acknowledged for the transgender community with the transgender flag (finally!), it's also necessary that the Aboriginal flag becomes acknowledged in emojis. I'm highly disappointed that it hasn't.

Anyone is free to submit emoji ideas to the Unicode Consortium, they're the ones that control the emojis, not Apple.

And the boomerang was stolen exactly how?

You're correct, they're not there. My girlfriend recently used the male/female body silhouettes in a post and I said why not use the normal male/female Mars/Venus symbols? I looked and googled and found that there are no emojis for those. I texted her the male/female Unicode characters from a Wikepedia article to use instead.
