So they shut the shop for an endless number of months just to put a few trees inside?! I don't believe this. There are now some uncomfortable seats around the trees, too. Perhaps there's some great improvement which I'm missing, but on the face of it, it looks like a mind-boggling waste of time and expense. Presumably, there's more space for the punters, though all those trees take a lot of walking space away.

There was nothing wrong with the last shop other than the crowds, and they could have solved that by simply opening more shops. I feel so gloomy about Apple these days; how things have changed. I remember how bursting with pride I was back in 2008-2011 with all Apple did. Now, everything they do seems to be one mis-step after another. I wish it were not so.
More than trees! Come on! The glass staircase was removed and replaced with two either side of the back raised area. Plus we don't know what other changes they have made right now (store and behind the scenes)

Looks very nice.

I was in San Francisco last weekend and went over to the new "flagship" store on Union Square. Pretty meh. Very disappointed.

Looking forward too it, I find light boxes much better on my eyes than lots of bulbs everywhere.

Sheesh.... All the moans about no new products on display.
For those who have complained... Think what you would be saying if there was a whole raft of new product and only an old outdated store to show it off in....

Can't you complainers wait a week or so? Are you that impatient? If you are then go buy a Dell or HP or some other POS that runs Windows 10.
When you get to my age (retired) you should have learned that good things come to those who wait.

Too dark and boring, looks like a church or сatacombs. Doesn't induce a wish to buy something. But maybe it fits London atmosphere?

To add, the building is also listed. This means that Apple were limited to what they could do to the structure. A good deal of the time would have been used to remove the old interior in a way that did not damage the shell. This is also an old building so extra care would have been needed all round.
I can remember several of stores that ware on this site as far back at 1972. Well, I should as I went to College just up the road (Towards the BBC). I can say that none looked as good as the Apple version.
I also saw far too many good buildings ripped apart without a thought. The Goodyear building on the Great West Road was demolished out of spite. So London Councils treat the sort of work Apple did with a good deal of care and attention.

Samsung, too, has opened its first flagship store…

That store in Birmingham likely shuttering to make room for Apple's new 20,000sq feet store in the grade II listed building, formerly Waterstones book store. Also software is not in boxes anymore it's all online on in the various App Stores. The stores are for hardware and service. And all Macs are getting later renewed this year.

They've moved. Waterstones is the new place as you say. Not a bank. But. No they have moved. That was the new place I was in. It's a cold, empty place. Vast grey stone walls. No soft furnishings. No carpets. No character. Massive empty space with long tables showing iPads and iPhones. Nobody looking at the computers. How things have changed in a year! You're right of course about the software disappearance. It's all online. Making the emptiness of the place more pronounced.

My missus met me as arranged 15 minutes and without me mentioning it - said how depressing and clinical the place is. Not welcoming at all.

I had to ask if there was a downstairs showroom. I had to actually ask. There is. Same layout. Huge space. Wooden tables. Same hardware. And a few overpriced accessories dotted around the wall edges. Dull lighting. Oppressive. Windowless. Horrible. And this is the replacement for the old store which I used to actually like.

This used to be the number one place to go when going round the Bull Ring Centre. A bit like Sheffield Meadowhall still is. Not now. I will give the place a wide berth when Brum-centric such was this despondent, Brave New World-esque environment. Too much space. Not enough content.

Apart from that - no complaints

Brilliant, gorgeous. It's really no wonder why the Apple Store has the highest sales per square foot of retail space. Now if they'd only update their computer lines…

I wish they had time lapsed the renovation process. Would make one cool video.

It looks really good though. This was the first Apple Store I ever visited. I went to the opening in 2004 when I lived in England and it was just incredible. I do like the new look though. It needed to be renovated and they've done one hell of a job.
