With a little warning, you can get your car off the highway and find a restaurant or rest stop to stay at while the storm passes. Not everyone is good at driving in the rain.

LOVE the dismissive attitude from certain people around here.
People like that shouldn't be on the road if they can't cope with rain or a change in conditions as they are a danger to themselves and everyone else around them. If they need warnings about rain to get off the road then take a bus. It's not dismissive, it's just a fact.

MacRumours, you neglect to mention these are specific accessibility features announced as part of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) campaign, and why it’s important. Because of this, everyone in this thread is banging on about how CarPlay is not great because you’ve presented these as mediocre feature improvements for the masses rather than the major improvements they are for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, colour blind, or not able to touch the screen whilst driving (such as someone with one arm).

I wish Apple could invest in fixing hearing (biologically) for all people fix hearing problems so no one who doesn't want to be deaf have hearing-loss can hear! Hearing related issues sucks.

The interest for music and hi-fi I had isn't on the same level anymore since I got trouble = less money will be invested into these things. I think to maximize the appreciation for music (and not to say the sounds of nature during all of life we need to keep people's ears in shape also when we get older. And keep a healthy listening habits when we're young:

Sorry I digress but it's really important stuff!
Wow, for an announcement on Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), this is a very ableist thing to say. Just because you have a position on hearing health and reducing hearing loss, does not negate the need to still provide support and accessible means for people who are ALREADY deaf or hard of hearing. This comes across as ablelist and very much against the intention of GAAD.

MR covered GAAD in a previous post that included mention of these CarPlay features. See the link in the first sentence of this MR post. This post focuses on the new CarPlay accessibility features.

What I wrote does not negate that need.
Two different topics. You can have more than one thing going at a time.

Seems like a strawman argument to me:

At least it wasn't my intention to negate that need, just to highlight the need of something else.

Again, I'm not neglecting the need for anyone who are hard of hearing or deaf but I'm saying there are more hearing issues than just these two, and for me it's very emotional right now, because I'm in all this with tinnitus, hyperacusis and some hearing-loss which affects me deeply throughout the day.
And also regret that I did this to myself (not wearing proper plugs in a loud venue when I know my ears are sensitive).

People can get home-bound from hyperacusis and even experience pain from even low volume sounds:

So sorry, but I felt I had to get this info out there. Maybe it will prevent someone from ending up in a similar situation that I'm in.

Can we please just have the ability to enable some kind of "Car Play Mode" directly on device? Mount phone horizontal and connect audio via bluetooth.
I've never understood why they don't offer this. My car is new-ish but has no CarPlay capability, and since it doesn't have a standardized double DIN mount for aftermarket audio gear I'm stuck.

You sound like you live in flatland.

Meanwhile, for those of us who live where there's terrain would find it helpful.

And weather along your route would be helpful, it would be nice to know that even though it's sunny and warm where you are, 100 miles down the road it's snowing.
I agree… Some of the more localized weather apps seem to be pretty effective at this.

That certainly sounds reasonable, but I think there's probably a financial incentive for Apple not to enable this feature. They most likely have a licensing agreement with manufacturers and state in that; Apple will not enable a full Apple CarPlay feature on the phone. Thus incentivizing manufacturers to add the feature to their cars without fear of Apple, going around them and enabling that directly on the phone. It would be interesting if someone knows if android allows android CarPlay to work directly on the phone.
