ProCare has been good to me!

I've had a ProCare card since early 2005. When I walk into a Store, I don't stand out, but I'm far from the "typical" Apple demographic. Reading the posts made me feel lucky in more than one respect:

1. I own two Mac laptops: a white iBook purchased in 2004, a mbp purchased August 2006. I have had NO problems with either one other than problems I created myself. For instance, I attempted to add memory to the older laptop and managed to strip one of the screws. A quick trip to my local Apple Store resulted in a 15 minute repair with no wait, courtesy of my ProCare card. This is typical of my need for repair. I've never even considered a "tune-up" because I was told it entailed leaving my precious laptop overnight. Having it taken to the back to fix the screw made me nervous enough, but overnight? Oh no.

2. I purchased Photoshop Elements a few months ago thinking I could teach myself the program. It wasn't as easy as I thought, and a quick trip to the Store resulted in a Genius sitting down with me and setting me on the right track as far as editing my photos. Total time in Store? One hour five minutes. I was probably able to get such a quick, same day appointment because of my ProCare card.

3. Best of all, I live in the suburbs of Washington, DC and have FIVE--count 'em--FIVE (did I say 5?) Apple stores available to me! Downtown Bethesda; Bethesda (Montgomery Mall); Tysons Corner, VA; Columbia, MD; and just a bit further, Towson, MD. I know this is unheard of for most people in the entire world, but it's been a blessing for me as the treatment I received at one store (to remain unnamed) even made ME embarrassed for Apple, Inc.--lousy is the nicest way I can put it. Apple really needs to do quality checks (secret shopper?) at its stores every now and then.

Getting back to the topic at hand, having my ProCare card has been a great experience, and I'll continue my membership. Having both services grandfathered into my membership is definitely worth the $99 as I use both rather extensively. If I didn't have that, I don't think I'd purchase the One-on-One service as having ProCare and .Mac are enough of an expense for me.

Anyone who wants to get either card should go right ahead IF they feel they currently get good customer service at their local Store. If the customer service is bad, having a card won't make any difference in your treatment, as I found out in the (still) unnamed Store.

Thanks for reading.
