Strange thread. Thought summer school vacation was over. Anyway, two things hit me from the chart:

1) iOS phone sales predicted to be a third to half as much as Android sales. A good showing for iOS.

2) Are they predicting almost 75 million Nokia Windows Phones? It'll be interesting to see if that actually happens.

I love my iPhone and don't ever plan to change - simple as that for me... I have a few friends that swear by their Android-type smartphones... but my iPhone is already attached at the hip...

These 3 examples are because of:
Reviews of cameras on phones: Apple is always in top 3 even if they have lover megapixel. The camera house is more important then megapixel. How many have 8 megapixel monitors to show the pictures?

The latest Android phones have 1080p recording. According to the reviews they don't have constant frame rate = it is a useless feature. Apples 1080p recording will be with constant frame rate.

The truth is, most smartphones don't have a useful camera. Megapixel doesn't indicate anything about cameras' quality, but rather sensor size, which could be a good indication. Nokia N8 tops megapixel and sensor size in camera phones, although I would prefer the same sensor with a lower density (e.g. 8MP). This would make N8 capable of capturing very usable pictures in a higher iso.

Most cameras can't assure constant frame rate on hd recording. So recording unstable 1080p is worse than a decent, stable, 480p at 30fps.

iPhone 4 does a lot of processing on their pictures making them vivid coloured although with clipped highlights and shadows. N8 preserves more details allowing you do post processing if you want. However none of them provide RAW shooting, which could provide far better pictures on post processing. Shutter lag and autofocus rarely matches a low end digital camera on the market.

In short, there is a lot of room for improving camera capabilities on cell phones, most of them software-related. I hope Nokia can provide a good software upgrade for Symbian camera software until they abandon the platform in favour of WP7 and MeeGo.
