Yeah no, definitely do not agree with that. I've been super careful with mine the past year and still there's a bunch of scratches all over.

These ads are such BS because when you break your watch playing tennis or soccer we all know they aren’t covering that under warranty.
This is exactly it. I like Apple, but I wish some AGs would do more to hold Apple accountable for the promises they make in advertisements. Not just Apple, but companies should be held to the standard they advertise.

I had an Apple Watch that died just a few months out after the 1 year warranty, because the waterproof seal gave out and let in water when I stuck my hand in a kiddie-pool playing with kids. We're talking just a few inches of submerging. It was an S4, which if people recall, Apple advertised by showing competitive swimmers doing laps in pools and surfers hitting waves in the ocean after taking a phone call.

The Apple genius wouldn't even entertain the idea of fixing it or replacing it for a second. They don't care, and he kept repeating that the advertisements all had a warning that the watch is water-resistant, not water-proof.

Rather than sand from the bunker it would have been more impressive if the watch got hit by a rogue golf ball.🏌️‍♂️4️⃣

All you scratch-whiners … just get a stainless or titanium Watch with sapphire crystal. Problem solved.
“Just sacrifice more to our corporate overlords and everything will be well. If they deceive you then it’s because you didn’t sacrifice enough”

-I feel like this is the reply to every complaint about a product posted on macrumors these days.

But it just doesn’t hold up. Apple can’t advertise its products like this if they can’t deliver on what is shown in the ads or what apple has written on the product marketing pages.

Does this new commercial so close to the fall release of series 8 kinda confirm that a “rugged watch” isn’t coming anytime soon?

My Series 4 has been super tough. I crashed on my bike one time and landed on the watch on asphalt, and it only has slight scratches. All the years of accidentally whacking it on things and swimming and getting it dirty have done nothing to it.

which model do you have?

Ok but they scratch pretty easy - so that’s the risk. Cracking less so but this advert seems to suggest you can be super care free, which you can’t.
FWIW - this is the best product that I found for my watch:

Two cases for $9. I basically never take off my watch now; and I rock climb in the gym 3 times a week. I have smacked the watch on climbing wall and cracked this case and then just replaced it with zero damage to the watch. It does add a bit of bulk but it does not mess with touch sensitivity at all; I am very happy with it!

(My watch is not Stainless Steel)

I know it’s not a fair comparison, but there is a huge difference in toughness and durability comparing my 1988 Rolex Submariner (stainless, sapphire, screwed down crown & back) and my AW 7 (stainless & sapphire).
You just can’t call something super durable when the entire watch is glued together.

My previous 4 and current 7 both survived dropping onto the tile bathroom floor with no problem. However I wouldn’t trust them in any of the cases where there was sand and definitely not the cement grind while skateboarding. My 4 took some serious scratches (almost worth calling gashes) from accidently rubbing it up against the stone hearth on a fireplace and then even worse against the rocks I pulling out while digging a hole for a home project. I didn’t notice I’d rubbed the watch up against anything until I saw the damage afterwards. That cement grind is exponentially worse.

My 7 is still in almost perfect condition since I’ve taken better care of it.

There is a huge difference in toughness and durability comparing my early 90's ~ $200 Seiko watches to the Apple Watches! I have three that I rotated for 25+ years that have less wear and tear on them then my 2 year old AW5.

Heh. Typical Apple ads showcasing weird scenarios that does not cover in warranty.
Apple ads are almost always disingenuous and misleading for what they are. Peak advertisement.
For context, my Apple Watch series 4 hit solid concrete a couple times. Does have visible scratches but no obvious crack. Ion-X glass. Does that mean it is as rugged as Apple watch Series 7?
Absolutely not! This current glass is as soft and sensitive as a hand lotion ad.

Older glass is so much better at avoiding scratches.

Do you remember an ad for I believe iPhone 6 or maybe the 5s, where it showed a swimmer doing laps, and she pulled up to the side and wet hands-and-all picked up her non-waterproof phone to look at something. The 7 was the first IP rated iPhone, and I thought “man, what a crock of sheet. They’re really just encouraging people to put their iPhone poolside like that where water could irreversibly damage it?”

So it goes in advertising I guess 🤷‍♂️

The most important test in California-Will it survive being rubbed across the side of my stucco house?

I have met nothing that survives that.

SQUASH !!!! A very, very brief glimpse. Something I'd never seen before in a ad (seen in da' USA). If you are interested:

Likely the greatest squash match ever played & top 10 most riveting sporting events ever:

If you just want to watch one incredible rally from this match:

They still take a beating but stainless just shows the scratches more than aluminum. Titanium will still get scratched depending on what you ding it with it.

LOL first time i swam with my apple watch and got stuck with the apple loop rebooting, I found out they break while swimming who knew.
