About time that Apple started reinvesting in its cutting edge cachet with top content creators. And marketing with them and to them.

Took a long time to get it the first time, and a short time to lose it when iToys were the focus for far too long.

Very good move.

The iMac Pro is the most powerful Mac ever unless you count Hackintoshes. However those machines will never be as stable as the real thing and updating the OS always has the potential to break things.

To the naysayers: I'm sure it's impossible to find a render farm of iMac Pros at the current time.

So what if they had to go to current render farms to get the marketing out quickly.

At least they told you.

Rendering 3D animations is never done on the design workstation (by professionals). Rendering animations takes forever. It's typically done over the network via banks & banks of mega core Windows based servers.
Not always, if you use GPU rendering with a few nodes you can get it done overnight but guess what? Apple chose GPUs that aren’t compatible with all the big GPU renderers that we use in our industry. We need Nvidia Cuda Core enables GPUs, Apple!!!!

Most powerful as just for video editing or not even that? (eGPU performance even more fun)

Of course everything new will always be the most powerful Mac ever, if you only ever compare your own products. Marketing wank.

I know right! That’s why I’m always annoyed when they announce the new iPhone etc and claim that its the most powerful iPhone yet — I’d be worried if it wasn’t.

Completely beat me to it.

Might as well call it "Our newest model yet".

Is everyone forgetting the ongoing tragedy known as the 2014 Mac mini? By not offering anything more than dual core, it was actually slower than the 2012 quad core models. And it lost the second hard drive bay and RAM slots to boot! Granted, the mini was never the "fastest Mac ever," but we have gone backward before.

:D:D:D I just imagined trying to stack tons of iMac Pro in server racks!

The ads certainly look impressive. I especially like the one from Erin Sarofsky. I realize that I'm in the minority in this (based on all of the comments in here so far), but I guess that's fine, so long as no one unnecessarily hates me for my opinion.

To demonstrate how the iMac Pro is the most powerful Mac ever, etc
[/QUOTE]

Put it in a laptop with 32 gig of ram and I'll buy one. But do it soon. Most of my music and video software is now on PC.

Apple has been on a visual roll lately, between the Spike Jonze HomePod commercial and these commissioned mind-bending animations. I liked the two first ones in particular. The glass/metal creatures didn’t seem to have much idea behind it besides “let’s mocap some dancers and play with 3D plugins”. It was also kind of ugly in a video game cutscene type of way.

To demonstrate how the iMac Pro is the most powerful Mac ever, Apple recently invited a group of filmmakers, CG artists, and graphics designers to create a series of short films using its advanced technologies.

The artists include creative director Erin Sarofsky, motion graphics designer Esteban Diácono, 3D artist Luigi Honorat, director and designer Michelle Dougherty, design and motion studio ManvsMachine, and an integrated collective of designers, artists, and storytellers from production company Buck.

From concept development through final preparations for render, Apple says the iMac Pro was at the center of the creative work. The fine print does note that additional equipment was used for final rendering of 3D content.

Each film is accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video showing how the iMac Pro fit into the creative process, alongside a list of software tools used and testimonials about how great the iMac Pro is. Apple hasn't shared the films on its YouTube channel yet, so it's unclear if they'll double as TV ads.

iMac Pro was described as "blazingly fast" in an early review. Based on benchmarks, the mid-range model with a 10-core 3.0GHz Intel Xeon processor is up to 45 percent faster than the high-end 2013 Mac Pro. The 10-core iMac Pro is also up to 93 percent faster than the latest top-of-the-line 27-inch 5K iMac.

Update: Apple has also uploaded some of the videos to its YouTube channel.

[doublepost=1521101943][/doublepost]I love my iMac Pro. What a wonderful and powerful computer!

I don't like that ancient monitor design - non-adjustable stand is pain in the ... and huge bezels look weird in 2018 .. design hasn't changed for many years and in this case it's not a plus. If you have no idea how to promote your product then just say 'Most Powerful Mac Ever' because you can use this silly attribute every single year even without thinking.

Wouldn't that same logic apply to everyone?

I mean... Dell and HP never had a Steve Jobs character... yet they're still around. Hell... NO other company had a Steve Jobs character.

And if I remember correctly... Steve started the "thin" nonsense. I'm not sure why you'd want to continue down that road.

Perhaps if you want the next Mac Pro to be amazing... maybe Apple should hire whoever designed HP's Z-series workstations.

Workstations just need to work... not wonder and dream... :p

These brands, how to say it... quoting Jobs himself, from an interview he gave many years ago in regards Microsoft, these brands make products for peasants. What the average Joe buys, on budget.

Apple goes at a Premium, at a hefty one. Therefore, if I shall pay premium, I expect premium results and premium raw power. This is not what Apple is offering since 2011.
  • Trashintosh? Don't even try to question this.
  • iMac Pro? GPU soldered. HDD proprietary. RAM upgradeable by Service shop. Let me laugh, hard.
  • MacBook Pro? emoji bar, no ports, trash keyboard that gets stuck with dust. No MagSafe (gotta charge with subpar USB-C, like any other peasant's laptop).
  • iPhone? Notch, emoji AR. Battery fiasco slowdowns...
Disgraceful. Jobs ought to be revolving in his grave.

I'll buy a refurbished one in 3 years!

Smoking fast, heavily discounted
I wouldn't expect it to be heavily discounted, refurbs are only about 12% discounted. MicroCenter's 1,000 discount on the iMac Pro is the best deal

[doublepost=1521135723][/doublepost]The Screen is TOO BIG.
Can't they put the same hardware in a smaller Display!

The 21.5 inch display, you could actually get a case and carry that to a job site.
This massive blob? No.

Agreed.
This has been LONG overdue for a redesign.
What is that, 4 inches off the desktop? That's insane.
It should be 1 inch, max, off the desktop.

I don't have much of an issue with the bezels. I could see why it would be a concern if you run multiple displays, but I actually prefer the border around the screen to help block more of what goes on behind my display, since mine doesn't sit against a wall.

Adobe creative cloud 6....Final Cut Pro X 0, at the end of the day, the 6 artists used what they felt was best, and why Apple felt that Final Cut was not good enough to at least warrant 1 artist, stunned me... You have to ask the question "Is Apple gearing up for mass Adobe adoption?", or "Is this the first hint of the shuttering of Final Cut/Logic?"

Apple from day 1 has never shown much interest in video editing software, look they made a somewhat feeble attempt with the introduction of Final Cut Studio, along with a great website, showcasing users using with video Final Cut Studio, the hardware supported, the included bundled apps..This was a great attempt by Apple, sadly ruined by no upgrades, half finished and barely functional, then an upgrade to Final Cut 7.0.3 just 3 point updates...

Then out of nowhere, Final Cut Pro is relaunched, and it was a flop, then a 2nd attempt, and we use that now, but still, very buggy, error prone, logical ideas unfinished, bloated with VR/360 now....

Then all of a sardine this imac pro thing...with Adobe as the headline act, on an Apple stage...I am sure the folks at Logic and Final Cut must have thought the same thing..what the [censored]...

It is so obvious that Apple has a plan, and you have to be living in a cave not to see it, the banning of post purchase upgrading, the insanely ineffective trashcan mac pro, laptops that cannot be upgraded, 13 inch laptops branded pro...like calling a chevy spark a sports car...hahahaha...

Apple has done almost no public events around Logic or Final Cut, the website is just text, and actually not very easy to find, one could almost say Apple is embarrassed by Logic and Final Cut, it almost feels like Apple wants to kill the computer range as a whole division and stick to being a cellphone innovator [as if it is any good at that...they are not!!].

No replacement for the cheesgrater, no 17 inch laptop, no Apple monitor, the weird round tube speaker thing, that is still in prototype being sold, it is unfinished, left in a state it is hard to make sense of...

The fact Adobe has taken centre stage is no accident, Apple made a decision about what it wanted to showcase the hardware, and by a 6 to zip you can only draw 1 logical conclusion, Adobe is king at Apple, does this mean a purchase by Apple or just the gearing of tech to favour Adobe and thus the in house apps Logic/Final Cut starved of development, users are forced to rent software from an outside provider...

The fact Apple is looking at this option is obvious, which is terrifying if you are a simple user looking at breaking into the video market, being held hostage to monthly ransom to access and to edit....I feel this is the only logical path Apple can take...

FCPX and Logic cost money, the costs maybe exceed the income brought in by sales, numbers are being withheld, so we know it has 2million seats sold, but actually how many users? Maybe a 5 to 1 ratio? For every legit copy, there are 5 illegal users??

Hackintosh devices...Maybe a factor?? I don't see a long term future for Logic/FCPX.

Can't you guys just once enjoy those awesome short films without having to complain about anything? Man, those rants across every single article is so annoying...

I don't enjoy fluffy oh how good adobe is on Apple websites...Adobe is old and tired technology...And for the record I did not watch them, I was told about the website, went and checked the details, saw they were all creative cloud, I hate creative cloud, and thus dismissed the artists work and worth as scum!

For me it was this video based on Final Cut Studio and the macbook pro that sold me on the idea that I as a single user, with very little investment capital has the power to edit professionally, until Final Cut Pro/Studio2 and a halfway decent macbook pro, you were limited to using a bulky DVCPRO field editor, a 2 deck portable edit tape based system...Now suddenly for next to nothing, you could edit on a train, a plane, in a car, and have the same on a PC, ok a mac desktop, but hey wow....

Now we have dog eggs for laptops, desk top screens with some sort of underpowered hardware trying to edit with an unloved hated by Apple app, even Apple has demoted the website to a few words, does zero marketing, created no video officially, does not make demonstration material available...

What is so confusing is that Apple makes the OS for watch, tv, mac, ipads/phones available in beta, but not for FCPX and Logic, I mean what is up with that??

The attitude Apple has towards creative apps is confusing, they create hardware that is almost at war with the software, yet suddenly, this crap about 6 creatives and using Adobe?? What is that all about???

Apple should be fair and say they are either going to carry on in house with FCPX/Logic or shut it down, and instead go full steam with Adobe...Then we can plan, but the hardware, no decent mac pro yet [how much longer Apple?] no decent hardware for mobile editing [16GB is just stupid..the power issue is BS!!]

Bloated editing apps, is 360/VR all that important, or is editing 8K more..seems VR is more important, Apple has starved FCPX of development, yet Apple hires new staff, Wes of Automatic Duck..when are we going to see the fruits of this hire???

The simple fact is, Apple has never not since the introduction of Final Cut Studio been all that interested in creative apps, even after the introduction of Final Cut Studio, this was starved of development, Apple just terminated development after the .3 update of FCP7...7.0.3...not even to a 1.0 update!!!! Strange...

Then silence until 10.0.0 launch, that went well...then a new version after everyone moaned about aspects of 10.0....Then came the news about HS and beyond not supporting FCP7.0.3...

That was a dreadful move, you have 2 options Apple...code out any way of using legacy, or code in a way..Sandbox legacy support, run 32bit in a 64bit environment...but no Apple chose route 1...

No post purchase upgrading, no support, no promotion of any kind, no roadshows, no tradeshows, no reliable halfway decent hardware...What the hell happened Apple???
