Look at the bio of Apple executives: http://www.apple.com/pr/bios. 12 of them, but not a single woman, or minority. Interesting.

Not really; perhaps no minorities or women are in suitable posts to move into an executive role.

Stop trying to find issues where none exist. My team of six was once criticised for having no minorities - this was because none had ever applied for a job. Do you find that "interesting" too?

Partial ownership of a company.

There are opportunities to make money by lending it to people who don't have it. One example is the savings account. Basically, you keep a bunch of money at your bank but you allow the bank to loan it out to other people in your community. They will return the money, plus a little extra for the convenience.

Another example is the government: you can loan money to the government by buying a bond. They will eventually give back your money, plus some more (the interest).

When you buy stock, you are loaning money to a company. You are telling them, "hey, hire some new people, do some research on new products, etc." with the hope that they will take your money, do that, and brings more revenue.

If you find this answer incomplete or inadequate, please visit your local public library and find books on investing.

Thank you.

Jesus christ are you annoying.

@knightlie...you're totally wrong and most likely a proponent of limiting minorities in the work place. Apple should be promoting minorities to senior executive positions because it's the right thing to do, not because of something as silly as qualifications or creative vision. In sincerity, your ops were Spot On. Let's let the intelligent and successful BOD at Apple decide who is the best person for the job...and to go out on a limb here, Apple DOES NOT seem like an environment that would turn down any stellar candidate because of race. Grow up people and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Yeah thats right! Steve Jobs, what does he know?..
Apart from being the most recognizable CEO in the world, run the biggest tech company, and consistently bring to the marketplace products that completely change how people interact with the world!

I'm completely sure that you're actually way, way, cooler than him, honestly, I do, really.

I could make a "My Mac is working perfectly" thread just for the fun of it :p.

It's reported that a whooping 30% of iPad buyers are buying their very first Apple product.

Demand outstripping supply. That must really hurt those that kept saying how only 'fanbois' would buy them, and even then it would 'fail', (hate that word) as it was just a big iPod Touch, but millions of people went 'Hmm big iPod touch, yeah, brilliant!' Course you could buy a Dell Streak which is like a big iPod Touch only a lot smaller, like an, erm, iPod Touch, 'cept ugly.

What are stocks?

Starting in the middle ages, they would often put people in stocks or stockades that would bind their head and hands through a wooden contraption and put them on display in the Town Square. This was used as a punishment.

While I don't believe that every Fortune 500 company would be better off with a marketing person at the helm, one cannot fault Apple's senior management team for their accomplishments.

Discpline, corporate culture and values and the understanding of what people want and how to achieve it... Not push push push AKA Ballmers days marketing and selling when you see the TV ads he used to peddle...

I like how one can download a high quality version of the bio photos...I think there may be a new background for my phone in the future...

Thanks for the lesson in economics, maybe his point was more why is it being posted on a rumours site, boring at best IMO.

Well because of the big rumor, of course: this promotion is obviously setting this guy up to take over as COO because Tim Cook is about to take over as CEO and Steve Jobs is about to retire! I DON'T KNOW HOW THESE RUMORS GET STARTED. :D

You're probably that guy that thinks Apple is over once Steve Jobs steps out of Apple.

Nah, they'll have a good two years' worth of pipeline products left. THEN it'll be over.

This is a big story. The only way Apple is going to be able to handle the future retirement of Steve Jobs while being able to manage its stock price is by keeping Jobs at the company as chairman for at least 5 years so investors can see that the company can be efficiently run by another human being. It will be interesting to see how Apple is going to be able to handle this inevitable issue.
