This is going to be more and more of a problem with Apple products.

Makes me wish Apple had better competitors. I really need to check out how Android’s been doing before I upgrade my iPhone.

Very tacky to have ads in Apple devices. Reminds me of Windows where you would open up Windows Messenger and it was riddled with ads and I finally understood why it was disliked compared to the rather spartan but still feature complete Mac version.

Sweet! Unlimited coffee, can’t go wrong with that.

But it's a weak promo. Panera has been advertising free coffee all summer long, actually started back in the spring. Yes, every day, they email me to sign up for their free coffee "subscription". Every day I delete those emails. Then the next day the offer comes back. Free coffee. From Panera. Why are you ignoring our offer for free coffee? Don't you like free coffee? For the entire summer? For 3+ months? No obligations you can cancel any time. Just give us your credit card to subscribe and you get free coffee for 3+ months. What can go wrong?

Well.... I've tried coffee from Panera a couple years before this promotion existed. And I concluded that Panera should stick to sandwiches, soups, and salads. Their coffee is nothing to write home about. Going to Panera for "great coffee" is like dining at McDonald's for "great seafood".

If Apple was serious about Apple Card promos, they should offer really tempting offers..... like say, you get 1000 Starbucks Reward Stars for signing up for the card and by being a Sbx rewards member. Now see? THAT is a substantial offer. Anyone who's even moderately a Starbucks veteran knows what I'm talking about..... 1000 stars is substantial, and the offer will turn heads.

I quit using the Apple Card months ago, right after Goldman Sachs refused multiple times, to resolve a dispute in my favor despite showing miles of proof that both the merchant and I wanted it resolved in my favor.

this bank is the most immoral company I have ever tried to work with.

I was awarded a chargeback just last week on my Apple Card just based upon verbal statements….

Yeah I am gonna call BS on this one. If the merchant wanted it resolved in your favor, it would've been

😂 would you like to see the email threads and multiple disputes re-opened over the period of a year?

APR shouldn’t matter if you’re paying the balance off anyway.

True. Sometimes I let the balance sit there. Not anymore

Not necessary, your claim has zero logic in it. You are claiming the merchant wants you refunded and GS said no. This isn't how it works. The merchant can refund you if they want to, nobody is going to stop them from doing so. GS only gets involved if a customer disputes a charge that the merchant is refusing to refund.

You are clearly leaving some key part of the story out of this.

If the link doesn't work for you, check your anti-virus. My Asus Router's TrendMicro was reporting the link as phishing. When I whitelisted it, it worked. Dumb that an Apple site would use Google Captcha but I was able to add another 3 months of Apple News+ to the 5 months I got from Verizon.

Did you get the 3 free articles a month message on that publisher’s site too?
No, it's just free. Here's an example. I can't link to Apple News for some reason, so...

This is the case for almost everything. The only ones I've seen actually paywalled were WSJ.

Agreed, and to me, the whole Apple Card thing feels very cheesy and uncharacteristic of them.

Well yea, that was the high level.
I’m ok sharing the full details, but to give a more clear version:

1. I made a purchase (food) which was taking too long so I asked to cancel and was told the refund would happen in ~48 hours, it never did.
2. I contacted the merchant with no response for days so I opened the dispute
3. The dispute was resolved in the merchants favor due to “enough proof from the merchant”
4. I got GS and the merchant both involved, the merchant was then showing proof of refund and GS claiming they couldn’t see it (I do not know if this is fact or not)
5. Merchant told me they provided proof of refund, which is shared, GS kept saying it wasn’t there and to bug the merchant for a refund and the merchant saying that GS has to release it.

so Im in that limbo. But, I’m on the merchant side ONLY because he has actually shown me proof that a refund was done and completed and GS just keep sending me words with 0 proof.

that pretty much covers the story.

I’d love to slap a pair of earbuds onto my Apple Card for “exclusive discounts” but at the same time… I would not.
Edit: I meant that I’d like to get an exclusive discount for purchasing an Apple-related product via their card. That would be great.

As an outsider view on this, I think the merchant is at fault on this one.

Weird interpretation.

The merchant tried to refund the charge, but can’t because GS has a hold on the charge due to the dispute.

Sounds like GS has a classic case of customer service not having enough power with the people who actually maintain the computer systems. And for a company new to credit cards, their computer system very well could be immature and not written to handle cases that don’t come up commonly. Such as a merchant trying to refund a charge that has already been disputed.

Think of them as perks

You’re not particularly savvy when it comes to consumer finance. I hope you don’t take that as an insult. Hopefully you consider it as an idea to consider in trying to gain more insight into yourself.

Ads are for stuff companies are trying to get rid of. It’s not the best deals around. Yes, occasionally you want stuff a company is trying to get rid of. But if you are looking through ads for good ideas for stuff you want to buy, you are really looking in the wrong place. Consumer oriented publications like TheWirecutter.com and Consumer Reports will really give you a better idea of what’s in your best interest.

And I am glad you are now paying off your credit cards every month. Letting those slide is a really bad habit a LOT of people get into. If you find yourself having trouble again, I suggest cancelling all credit cards and using debit cards.

Wrong, read again before telling me I am the weird one. The dispute was closed in favor of the merchant, it isn't on hold.

I get that people dislike GS for a number of reasons, but have to play fair

Thanks for the beans and rice lesson Dad. But I already possess degree in finance and economics. I’ll keep your lifehacks article in mind when I sign off on the expenses of 200 or so employees, put my name on our 10-K, or buy my next iPad Pro using only Apple Cash obtained via rewards for my own Apple Pay spending ($0 interest paid since getting the card in summer of 2018).

Advertisements are not always about discounting specific products or services either.
