I like the netflix idea too and just signed up since they have a $7.99 streaming only option.

But the movie selection is kind of crap if you ask me. And many movies are disc-only, meaning I have to upgrade and have a disc mailed to me and mail it back when I'm done watching.

The TV selection is pretty good, but it's kind of a teaser. They have Season 1 of Dexter for example...so you get hooked then have to go rent DISCS for the subsequent seasons.

Meh, the system just isn't quite there yet.

The selection of what is available on instant view from NetFlix is actually out of their control. Because the studios have decided that streaming (on demand) service falls into the same category as broadcast, when a network reserves a block of time in which to show a movie, no other service can offer that movie at the same time. So, while NetFlix would love to have their whole catelog available for instant view all the time, the studios won't let them. So, rather than complaining about how NetFlix's selection sucks, complain that the studios arent allowing the system to get "there".

I got a rock

But seriously, I prefer to buy a movie whether as a digital download or physical disc.

Back when movie rental stores first opened for VHS tapes, the cost of a movie to purchase was huge so the benefit of renting was clear. But the purchase price has come down.

Although I've noticed high def movies seem to be high priced. Even for download.

Netflix is to me the best option if you do not wish to purchase a movie outright.

I did get one of the codes, almost deleted it by mistake. Phew.

But if iTunes could match RedBox for SD movies ($0.99 / night) and HD for ($1.50) I would be all over it. The prices are awesome. Although the HD from RedBox is BluRay and not 720p; but that's OK with me. Make BluRay $1.99 and I'd still be very happy. I'd never buy a disc again, I'd watch all the old movies I have been wanting to watch, and all the new releases in HD as they come out.

Right now, the price on iTunes is just a bit too high. I think Apple knows this and thus the $0.99 price to show the studios that they can make more at a lower price break.

Let's hope. :D

i'm sure it's based on how many apps you have bought so far. if you haven't bout many apps, it's unlikely you will also waste your money on these overpriced video downloads...

I haven't gotten a free code. I guess it wouldn't matter; there's not any movies I care about on the iTunes store anyway.
