So for those waiting out for the next “e” model hoping it will have MagSafe, it won’t have it nor will it have Ultra Wideband. Apple 🍎 wants majority of there customers in there base/standard models. 🍎📱💰

This is exactly the kind of review Apple wants. Most reviews complained about the lack of MagSafe and the price and Gruber defends both, essentially saying it’s Apple so no one should expect their cheapest phone to be less than $600 and everyone should expect it to cost more than a “no-name” Android phone. That’s really insulting considering many Android phones are really good now. Of course iOS vs Android is subjective but from a hardware standpoint many Android phones have hardware just as good (if not better) than iPhone.

Honestly, this review reminds me of Gruber’s review when the latest iPad Pros first came out. He defended the software limitations and basically said the iPad Pro is just meant to be a “nicer” iPad like going from a Toyota to a Lexus. Makes me wonder does he really believe what he’s writing or does he feel the need to provide a counterpoint to other reviews?

Terrible choice, HOWEVER...it should be noted that all you need to do is put it in a MagSafe case, which 99% would be doing anyway, and MagSafe is magically back.

You think the target audience for the iPhone 16e cares what MKBHD or Gruber or YOU thinks about the phone? All this feigned outrage is performative nonsense that exists because "Influencers" need clicks and tech nerds like to complain on forums.

Isn't this the opposite logic of when Apple removed legacy tech from their devices like disk drives and CD drives while many were still using them?

I thought Apple was all about aggressively skating to where the puck was going to be, but I guess no more

Sometimes this place starts to sound like a Porsche forum talking about Hondas, just absolutely unable to understand why everybody doesn't buy a Porsche, and convinced that everyone who *doesn't* buy a Porsche is either an ignoramus or silently weeping bitter tears about not having done so.
The funniest thing is that people complaining here would never buy 16E for themselves anyway 😁 They're not the target audience, but tt doesn't bother them to be angry and dissapointed for others, lol.

So sell us a non-budget mini da## it Apple, instead or in addition to a 'budget' phone.

I don't use magsafe, I prefer the wireless chargers I already have, even if somewhat slower. It's not a big deal to me. I also heard that it can be a good thing for batteries to charge slower, am I wrong?

With this declaration of Apple, I much rather continue to buy slower chargers from elsewhere, without magsafe 😂

This forum is getting more and more unhinged.

OF COURSE Apple shaved options in its least expensive iPhone 16. OF COURSE! How this is somehow controversial is a function of the oddity of MacRumors, not the oddity of business.

You people crack me up. So many of you critique Apple as though it is a government program that owes you things.
Yet the 16e includes things that the more expensive 15 doesn’t.

People might not realize this but wireless charging heats up the battery, result is it will degrade faster, I avoid wireless charging and I bet a lot of others do to.

If you would have read the article, that is not the case. It's the result of analyzing its user base and determine from that what to include to weigh the cost vs. user value balance.
How many people use/care about Apple Intelligence?

Well I have no idea who the target audience is for the 16e so…

If this phone did include MagSafe would you be complaining that Apple was stupid for including it?

It also means lower manufacturing costs since you don't need to include the fairly expensive magnets in the back needed for MagSafe. Hence the reason why I said the iPhone 16e could get substanial price discounts even for the unlocked versions by this summer.

Yes. It's a newer phone. But it doesn't contain everything that the more expensive 15 has.

Again, are you really upset by this whole issue? Is this something you spend time worrying about? Why? Just don't buy the phone and move on.

You are not owed anything. It's business. You choose or you don't choose to buy it. Is there somewhere you can spend your outrage points for prizes?

I have found USB-C less robust than Lightning. The USB-C ports on some of my devices (including my MacBook) get looser over time, whereas this has not happened with my Lightning devices.
Going by your signature you have one of the older MacBooks that was some of Apple's first attempts at USB-C. Apple has since iterated on their design and newer MacBooks have stronger USB-C ports. I imagine they took what they learned and also applied it to the port on the iPhone.

Fast wired charging can also degrade the battery.

In theory, the best form of charging is slow wired charging, so perhaps USB-C charging with a 5 volt 1 amp adapter. Also, it's best to charge to only 80% most of the time.

Ironically, I'm trying to increase battery degradation on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's been at 82% health for several months now. I want it to degrade to below 80% so I can get the battery replaced before Apple stops offering that service for this model. Hopefully it will drop below that 80% threshold by the fall. I will buy a new iPhone 17 Pro Max (with 3 cameras and MagSafe), and then pass the 12 Pro Max down to my kid, preferably with a brand new Apple OEM battery.

Hopefully you're right but I'm not convinced. I've seen complaints about M1 MacBook Air USB-C port reliability.

To be fair, I‘m the only one in my bubble using a magsafe batterypack and a magsafe anker powerbank.

Between the wallet and a nightstand for the admittedly weak use of the Standby feature, that's been my draw to magsafe, not the charge speed.

You can get that with the 16e by adding a case with magnets on it. My SE supports standby mode, despite not having MagSafe.

Tech became religion. People will fight to the end to defend their purchase choices and ridicule other ones. Getting so emotional about some design choice of a new product that is not even targeted at them is wild.

Absolutely. MR and all the tech reviews is a bubble. I can confirm this in anecdotal cases. I know a ton of people with iPhones, young and old and most do not even know that they have Magsafe and if they know they still charge mainly from the cable. So in the case of the budget iPhone the percentage of people who need Magsafe is probably even lower. The situation would probably be different if Apple would be including wireless puck in the box.

I have MagSafe chargers all over my Apartment and often when guests come over they end up not being able to charge their phones unless they remove their cases that aren’t MagSafe compatible. I have a MagSafe charger on my desk at work and I still often have coworkers who didn’t know it was a feature and are really surprised by standby mode.
