How many people use/care about Apple Intelligence?
No, not using Siri either.
Have another AI service that I occasionally use for some writings, but less than expected.

Fast wired charging can also degrade the battery.
My charger's are not particular fast-charging. The Phone are placed in one of the dock's when I don’t need it in my hand, when at home.
My mini is on 89% battery after 2,5 years - it’s good enough for me, and I haven’t been thinking about it just using it as normal.
I hope it stays there until another flip or likewise can replace it in the next yrs.

I've never used an iPhone case in my life, and I've no intention of doing so any time in future. My phone stays in my shirt pocket, and I don't need any clunky case making it fatter.

The one massive advantage that MagSafe gives me is that I can pop my iPhone (14Pro) onto a MagSafe nightstand and have it automatically switch into "bedside clock" mode.

For you and the other ~10% of people who don't use cases, yes, it's not a good fit for you.

You can also buy a sticky magnetic ring to attach to the back.

To be fair, I‘m the only one in my bubble using a magsafe batterypack and a magsafe anker powerbank.
Curious if you have a case on your phone or if you are using it naked? If you have a case, does it have its own magnets in it? If so, nothing prevents you from doing the same with the 16e.

Wired or wireless? How many Watts?

High wattage is not good for the battery. Wireless is also not good for the battery. Charging to 100% is not good for the battery. However, it’s cumulative but it’s not as if doing any of these things is going to be an immediate disaster for your battery. Apple’s charging protocols try to minimize the damage to the battery even when you use some or all of these features. For example, Apple iPhones will reduce power draw for iPhone charging after a certain amount of charge.

Translation: Margins, man.
Sorry but all you folks who constantly claim every time that Apple fails to include some feature in a device is simplistically "Margins, man" need to take some business coursework. Sure Apple needs to maintain margins, but equally important is product placement in the hierarchy among a whole series of iPhones. Like Gruber said, Apple builds each iPhone to suit its target market segment.

Apple of course may not always get it right, but almost always product placement is what is driving some set of features. Price and maintaining margins are obviously always also part and parcel of defining each product and its place in a product hierarchy.

Fast wired charging can also degrade the battery.

In theory, the best form of charging is slow wired charging, so perhaps USB-C charging with a 5 volt 1 amp adapter. Also, it's best to charge to only 80% most of the time.

Ironically, I'm trying to increase battery degradation on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's been at 82% health for several months now. I want it to degrade to below 80% so I can get the battery replaced before Apple stops offering that service for this model. Hopefully it will drop below that 80% threshold by the fall. I will buy a new iPhone 17 Pro Max (with 3 cameras and MagSafe), and then pass the 12 Pro Max down to my kid, preferably with a brand new Apple OEM battery.

Hopefully you're right but I'm not convinced. I've seen complaints about M1 MacBook Air USB-C port reliability.
Yes, fast wired charging increases heat, I don’t do that either.

What, you are not allowed to change your battery above 80%, what a crock.

I did so a couple of years ago, had no problem getting a new battery, but, that was for a greatly reduced price and only available for a year or so, had to do with the whole battery degrading debacle.

Gruber will never say anything even slightly critical of Apple.

The only real reason is to get more money out of people by pushing them to the regular 16. Just like why the regular 16 lacks ProMotion, to push people to the Pro.

That’s it. No other reason.
The idea that every phone at every price point should have every feature is absurd.

Oh come on! Do Apple and Tim think we are that stupid?

They literally took an iPhone 16 into a meeting room and started shaving every $ they could to make the gimped 16e.

Lets remove magsafe, yep, pro motion tick, telephoto, macro..and the list keeps going. Oh, lets tell everyone what great battery it has,..we just won't say that its because we've removed every worthwhile feature to satisfy shareholders.
The iPhone 16 doesn’t have telephoto or Pro Motion…

remember the first iMac back in 2000s. They ditched serial ports completely and switch it to USB. Most customers at that time were still using serial ports for mouse and keyboard. That's called a forward-thinking strategy even most customers were not using it...

I want to see their research numbers on this. Kinda curious the amount of people they asked
Product market research is more complex than you imply. Although surveys are one tool, they are just one tool. Other tools (focus groups for instance) are often more important.

In my case, they’re right. I don’t see lack of MagSafe as a dealbreaker. I’ll be picking up mine tomorrow.
I went a long time without appreciating or using MagSafe, now since I've started using it, the lack of it would be a dealbreaker.

That’s more of a reason to get last year’s model instead of the expensive “budget” option.

Removing a feature with a huge ecosystem like MagSafe really feels like Apple is "other"ing iPhone 16e users compared to the mainstream iPhone 16.

It's not just about charging, I buy the cheaper iPhones for my kids and my son uses stick on battery packs ALL THE TIME. He also uses a little stick-on wallet pretty frequently.

Normal people use MagSafe. It's useful.

Blame the customer…nice. How the hell do you know the “market” aka poor people, don’t use magsafe chargers?
I am not poor I just don't want to pay for things I don't ever use like the macro lens or magsafe or gimmicks like the capture button or whatever its called. Wireless charging is wasting up to 50% of the power depending on the charger and turning it into heat instead of energy for your battery. Plus it's not really wireless as you still have ugly cables. Now if it was built into my desk or into the table at the coffee shop that may be a different story. But at home I charge it with a cable at 20W and it's way faster.

So for those waiting out for the next “e” model hoping it will have MagSafe, it won’t have it nor will it have Ultra Wideband. Apple 🍎 wants majority of there customers in there base/standard models. 🍎📱💰
