Buy $250 earphones... get free replacement tips that cost less than 10¢ to make.
...and that's how you change the world.

So technically, Apple is only replacing with 1/3 of what you would get if you went ahead and forked out the $3.99. What a deal for only $29 worth of Apple Care!

You da man, Tim!

It’s both courageous and magical.

expect to see a bunch of these on eBay.
Really? Who is going to go to Apple with their $249 AirPods and use their $29 AppleCare to get a single pair of replacement tips that they can sell on ebay for, what, $2-$3? After listing fees and postage, why, they might get a windfall profit of 75 cents! And it doesn’t scale well - you cant go in and ask for 10 pairs at once, and if you keep coming back every day, they’ll catch on, and flag you as... well, as that ridicul loser of tips.

When I called Apple about replacement tips, they were free under AppleCare+ but counted as an incident. You get two incidents under AppleCare. I opted to save my incidents for the possible loss or failure of an AirPod. I paid the money for the tips.

This is the reality of it; generous old Apple, when nothing could be further from the truth. In ignorance folks take the 1 cent tip and effectively halve the AppleCare liability for that customer. Apple at their money grabbing and cynical ”best.”

They better. You only need a damn vice to pinch them and then a damn crane to pull them off.

Yeah, well... That’s a good thing, because I’d be completely frustrated if the gel tips fell off easily without little effort.

There is no “retail pack” of replacement tips for AirPods Pro, and replacement tips must be ordered as a set of two tips of one size only. They must be ordered through a special page under AppleCare, not the Apple Store; that is, it’s not like the Apple Pencil replacement tips. You pay the $3.95 — or don’t, in exchange for one of two AppleCare+ incidents, apparently — select a size, and they ship out a pair in that size.

Not sure if you’re referring to physically losing an AirPod, but AppleCare+ for headphones doesn’t appear to cover loss/theft. Your mileage may vary.

Apple have GOBS (GOBS AND GOBS!) of these in-store out back for Demos, and they're saying you have to call up and have AppleCare+? They're just enjoying watching customers perform for them

The worst is when those cheap guys only replace one AirPod and you are stuck with one running out of battery while the replaced one is still on half a charge after a year.

What kind of issues have people seen with them? I've had a lot of issues with my Powerbeats Pro's, and they are going back to Apple. I realize there is no 'perfect pair' out there. But will keep looking for something that doesn't curl up and freak out within a month. *sigh* My Backbeats seem to be the best, but they have issues too... One being Discontinued...

The product should have come with spares to begin with. Stingy Apple.

Profit motive? I've never had a pair of anything that came with same size spares. Like ever. I've also never needed spares. *shrug* Do they come off easier on the AirPod Pros? *Hmm*

Best wireless ANC out there.
Purchased AC+ pretty much exactly 60 days after purchase, extending warranty to 26 months after purchase (obviously some new EU regulation).

Will „order“ replacement tips shortly to have a pair ready if the need should arise.
It‘s a mystery to me why Apple doesn‘t simply sell them separately.

They do sell them separately 🙂 If you don’t have AppleCare, they’re $3.95 a pair.

No, no one’s saying that. Well, except you. You don’t call up and you don’t have to perform, whatever that means.

You fill out a web form to request a replacement pair. If you have AppleCare, they send them for free. If you don’t, you pay $3.95.

Thanks for the info. I've just ordered a spare pair for myself and also for my girlfriend's AirPods Pro too. I had to go through the process twice to get the two pairs.

Both pairs were free of charge and all the information needed was the individual serial numbers for the AirPods Pro.

I got replacement medium tips in early December and they charged me $3.95 despite AC+, and then I ordered replacement large tips in January and again they charged me $3.95. They didn't ask me about AC+ and didn't say that using it would count as one incident, it never came up.

i would have rather have paid for these than it count against one of my Two counts of accidental damage, never given that option they were free both times.

A replacement tip doesn’t count against accidental damage. Only true damage does — and you still have to pay a replacement fee, it’s just not anywhere near what a new set cost .

I have AppleCare+ on my Airpod Pros. Ordered a pair of replacement tips yesterday and was charged $0.00. I then read that this would count as one of the two "incidents" included with AppleCare. Not wanting to waste an "incident" on a $4 item, I called AppleCare Support. I was assured by the rep that replacement tips DO NOT count as an incident. Hope this is true as the online ordering process: A: Never advised me that this would use up an "incident", and B: Never gave me the option of paying for the replacements. If given the choice, I can't imagine anyone would use an "incident" to save $4.

Incidents are for accidental damage or battery replacement and require you to make a $29 co-pay.

The tip replacements are only $3.95 without AppleCare, but free if you do have AppleCare. Rest assured that Apple isn’t going to burn one of your $29 incidents on a $4 accessory :)

You received the correct info from the Apple rep, and the poster who said the free ear tips required using one of your two incidents was wrong.

Thanks. The Apple rep who confirmed that no incident would be used was actually the second (after escalation) rep I spoke to. The first Apple rep stated that the replacement tips would cost me an "incident" and there was nothing that could be done about it.

Are you talking about taking them out of the case? Because that's not how you take them out. MacRumours had an article about it, where you are supposed to press the top of the airpods towards you to take them out. No pinching or pulling the tip.

If that's not what you are talking about... I guess I am going to come across as a douche know-it-all...

I didn’t even buy that rip off $29 apple care+ and they gave me 3 free tips (one of each size) for a replacement soo
