Some people cannot smile and I bet she is one of them.
I'm pretty sure that's the case for her. Not everyone is "natural" at smiling, it looks horribly forced as others have said.

.mac wasn't introduced in 2000.
No one is commenting on her goddamn appearance.
Yeah it was. Macworld SF 2000 keynote. Steve introduced the mac.com e-mail, iCards, and web services at that keynote along with Mac OS X and Aqua interface. I would know, I was there!!
Thanks for the random reminiscence. Presumably you kowtow to someone else now. What happened?...Back when I was freelancing I covered the MWSF release of the G4 iMac in 2002. The media event was scheduled the day before the expo opening because (IIRC) Time Magazine had broken the story when it was supposed to be embargoed. As a result the media was let into the Apple section of the hall a day early. Steve was there to talk to the A-list media but all of us got to roam the floor, to take pictures and find somebody (other than Steve) to answer questions. It was clear that Katie Cotton was Steve's designated protector. If we spent too much time in Steve's personal space, she zoomed in like an attack bomber. A formidable person. Quite tall. She warned me off a couple of times, but I still managed to a get a couple of good pictures of Steve.
Completely apart from whether it is acceptable adult behavior to comment on someone's appearance, a person has to wonder why anyone would sign up for MR just to post such an obviously incorrect statement.
Next time we have a discussion over Tim Cook or Carl Ichan I do hope you are this critical when the discussions over their pictures start (And they always do), otherwise you are a damn sexist hypocrite.

I bet the tension inside Apple is palatable.
This is why people can't take the 'you're racist/sexist' whiners like you seriously. You call people a name due to emotions and never use a logical argument. That guy had a very nice, laid out argument as to why the photo is bad.

It's not my first account, I've been here since 2006. I deleted my old account a couple of years ago because I found the intellectual dishonesty of shrill fanboys too annoying.
Which you are amply proving by quoting me out of context, and ignoring what I actually said. Good job!
Since many people were in fact commenting on her appearance, your statement was in fact entirely incorrect.
I guess computer nerds have so little interaction with real women that they don't understand that they have actual talents and abilities and don't just exist to give you a turn on.
After several pages of yammering, one guy said, as an aside, that she is attractive. Don't pretend that this is what you were referring to.
Saying that her expression in the photo is inappropriate for a publicity headshot is not a comment on her "appearance", and does not objectify her any more than telling Eddy Cue to tuck his damn shirt in on stage is objectifying him.
EDIT: It's still amply proven that this place is lousy with intellectually dishonest blowhards. I repeat - you ignored the body of my post in order to win pedantry points.
Hit it? Then you must be older than me. And I'm 108.Dafug did I just read...? Seven pages of *****torming over a really poor mugshot. Ok great.
I'd still hit that.

who ever took her headshot should be fired.
Edit: To quell all of the people that for some reason said my comments were sexist. Even though I didn't mention her gender or looks at all
Why this picture is bad:
1. It's a forced smile any good photographer can get a person to show their true relaxed smile and or look. Believe me I suffer from the same problem
2. It's shot upward just a tiny bit, which is never flattering.
3. The picture is too hard, too small of an aperture, or over processing. it should have been shot wide open 5.6 or 2.8 maybe even 1.2/1.8
4. ^ which is why there is some type of motion blur or focusing issues around the eyes. can't figure out what is wrong, but something is off
5. She's smiling in one direction and looking in another. Some simple composition could fix that.
6. I'd think that Apple would have better photographers at their disposal.
For the record she looks pretty to me, just poorly photographed.
