They blatantly lied in that statement.

Your statement either means you have insider knowledge of the situation, which I am willing to bet you do not, or you are jumping to conclusions based on assumptions, rumors, and/or nothing other than being self serving. So stop where you are. It really doesn't matter. A good bet is that you will once again shop for Apple products, my stocks will rise in value, and the sun will rise in the east.

It was 3 removed from the store and 1 rejected. Seems like more than "a single app." I wish I was cool like you, but I prefer not to piss on what people found use of just because I didn't use it myself.

3 removed and 1 rejected. Drop in the bucket.

Is THAT what all this fuss is over?? I already have most of those features with my current provider, which I pay for, which work 100% of the time. I guess the conference calling might be interesting. maybe recording calls as well. But not enough for me to blow my fuse.

Call free within the continental US and to Canada

And what's that free calls BS? Sounds pretty fishy.

Wrong genius!

If Apple wants a CHANCE at a long term future for their app store their going to have to hire and train MORE REVIEWERS.....M A N Y M O R E R E V I E W E R S ! !

Actaully their App Store already seems to have guaranteed itself a long-term future. Are you posting from a year ago?? Not only does Apple have a chance, they've already sealed the deal as THE platform of choice to develop for. The competition has yet to prove itself, and to this day offers nothing even remotely approaching Apple's App Store.

It's very simple. It will confuse you. And Apple doesn't want you to be confused. It's confusing to be faced with multiple places to buy music from. That's not what Apple's about.

For Apple, it's not about the money. It's about you not being confused.

I hope your being sarcastic. If not, that would be an extremely sad and pathetic thing to say. Furthermore, it might be even be a bit draconian. But I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your being sarcastic.

so youre okay with being a total hypocrite?!

you despise apple so much that youre willing to lose out on any financial gain you could see through their success, but in the same breath you say you love that company's product whose R&D, production, distribution, sales, and support are all based on a business model that you so utterly despise?

umm, that makes no sense. Being successful and putting out good products does not have to be a result of a mafia like operation. And it's only recently that apple has been displaying this attribute.

It's not like they did me a favor by selling me a Mac Pro, or me buying a Mac Pro being a gesture to support the company. It's strictly business.

The FCC and other companies like Google need to keep apple honest.

No one cares about this outside of the Mac internet forums. And I find myself caring less and less about it the more play this story gets.

It doesn't deserve this much attention. It's a single app, which on its own isn't very impressive to begin with.

And we know this exactly how? Are we a Google Voice user? Did you beta the Google Voice app somehow? Were we even a GV Mobile customer by chance? Is this trolling thing of ours intentional or subconscious?

Isn't it amazing how the exact same troll bait posts show up on two different Apple forums?

glad that I have no TWO dial pads...

indeed..
to be honest and from what I understood is that Google added a other dial pad on there application.

If that was/is the case it would confuse me, it would confuse my wife and highly likely many other people.

I really would like to have ONE clear diad from where I do my calling work... not 2, not 3 or 4 or how many apps there are... I just need one dial pad and that's it.

So if Google alters the interface dramatically and such a way it confuses people (GMail already confuses me... so I can imagine) then yeaa... it should have been rejected.

Next is for Apple to fix and create a API so these sort of apps can be allowed one day.

Also, I like the app review, at least we see some stable apps (some of them are slow though....) and I have had windows thingy in the past (Dell thing) and with installing apps... booom crash!!! I have that MUCH less with third party iphone apps.

Thumbs up for :apple:

Which provider gives you a unified phone number that can ring all of your phones? Which one allows you to switch phones on the fly while in the middle of a call?

Okay so apple doesn't approve one app, especially a google one (hello its ****ing google the worlds largest advertising agency) I don't want their **** ****ing with my phone or ill start seeing when i purchase **** online that I should call so and so from my address book and get them to buy the same ****.

**** I am ****ing happy that app ain't accepted the other versions (designs made by other developers) of it weren't even that stable to begin with not to mention the G1's interface sucks ass what makes any of you guys think it will work better on the iphone lol.

As for only having 40 reviews, you have to realize these apps would be final versions and only need to be tested for the criteria apple spoke about ( for instance how long does it take to look for immature content id say maybe three seconds) ......Not to mention apple has the right to take down any app it wants to at any given time so i bet they go back and look through them again and take them off if they need to later, also when an app is up for an update the update can be rejected and the app removed that happens to some developers to.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for clearing up the ignorance of your opinion.

The fact that you don't think buying a company's product has anything to do with supporting that company, is all I need to know I'll never be able to have an educated discussion with you.

Let's everyone slow down for a moment and reflect. What do you think Alexander Graham Bell would think of the iPhone and of Google voice? He'd probably stab us in the neck so he could steal our iPhone and return to 1876.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

I buy Dole bananas, because those are the bananas I am confronted with in the grocery store. Despite my regular banana consumption, I don't consider myself a supporter of Dole bananas, I do not regularly contribute to the DoleRumors forum, and I don't put how many bananas I've eaten in my signature on said forums.

Now if anybody says anything bad about Apple, I will put a hex on them.

And neither can I have an educated discussion with a blinded apple fanboy.

read this...

'Specifically, the Google Voice iPhone app would replace the iPhone's "Phone" icon on the bottom of the home screen, which prevents voicemails from being stored on the iPhone and disables Apple's Visual Voicemail, the company said. The SMS function of the Google Voice app does the same thing.'

from pc-mag article 'Apple Denies Rejection of Google Voice iPhone App':

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2351895,00.asp

If the above is true... then the google app would be quite intrusive, effectively making the iphone a google-phone, usurping the apple signature. I for one agree with what apple is doing: protecting their hard work.

Also, for those who argue that they want 'choice', in fact, you do have choice: there are google phones with google voice in them.

yet another take from pc-mag article 'Analysis: Apple, AT&T and Google Voice'...

'Their argument sounds oddly plaintive: Apple "spent a lot of time and effort" developing their phone interface, so they don't like that Google "replac[es] the iPhone's core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail."

A tiny violin plays for Apple. But the line is clear: Apple sees their platform as their house. Software developers are guests, and they can't rearrange the furniture. The iPhone is not a completely open platform - but only fools ever believed it was.'

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2351900,00.asp

I like the house metaphor. It is the best take on the subject that I have heard in a while...

enjoy...

Then they came ...

First they came for the Google Voice application, and I didn’t speak up, because I did not use the Google Voice application.

Then they came for the GV Mobile and countless other applications for Google Voice, and I didn’t speak up, because I did not use them.

Then they came for MY FART APPS, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for ME!!

so many experts...

1. 40 reviewers x $50K year/reviewer = $2 mil/year

- perhaps 40 reviewers to review 70% junk apps with no revenue is adequate.
- disclaimer: these numbers are a point guess, very conservative to say the least, provided that they live in CA, USA.
- apple folks are for profit, very smart folks. If they have 40 reviewers, that may be appropriate, in spite of what any one 'expert' in this forum says...

2. has any one seen the iphone google app that is in review?

- is yes, where is the pick? where are the links?
- if not, then we have to give apple the benefit of the doubt when they say that this google app is not up to their standards.

3. finally, the original inquiry is not solely into the app review process, but into possible unfair practices by the apple-att liaison.

- point mute because att has no saying in the app review process

Those reviewers are engineers. They actually make more than $50k/year.

Again, no one istelling you to download the app. The app doesn't come with the iPhone. Are you also confused with all the VOIP apps on the App Store with their own dialers? Are you confused by all the SMS apps on the App Store? Are you confused by all the voice recorder apps on the App Store when you already have one?

Are we to have no apps that can compete with Apple's own apps?

This is utter nonsense. The idea that you can get confused by an app you have to conciously download and get rid of anytime you want is ridiculous.

I agree, all the apple apologists over this thing are killing me. I am very much an apple fanboy but I cannot tolerate this kind of BS.

Secondly, brockm is awesome.

And third, I'd like to say that while I'm pissed at apple over this and their lame response, I'm also still pissed at AT&T and basically all US telecomm companies... the FCC needs to kick all of their @$$es, talk about cartels. I could write an entire paper on why they all suck and we are all getting screwed in the process. But alas, bed time.

Bottom line, I hope the FCC calls out all the BS and follows up on this. Apple and AT&T need a bruising.

Oh Come On!!!

Do half the people complaining realize that most of the services are already FREE on CellPhone carriers. That its still Beta and Restricted still. Maybe thats why Apple have rejected it. Because it hasn't even been finalized, or their intentions haven't been established. Google being Google.

I use google voice's SMS capabilities religiously. I'm so glad the android apps are more than adequate!

In other news, I can finally say I can't complain about the speed of the g1 any longer - I found an app that can overclock the processor on it. Whew!

I don't know about you. But I'm glad that Apple rejected this application. Otherwise, I may have installed it on my phone. Had this occurred, I would likely have become very confused and not known what to do.

If I had more than one way to place phone calls on my phone, I would enjoy my phone significantly less, and likely fall into a deep depressive episode.

I'm glad to see that Apple is protecting me from this confusion-inducing, alternative calling system. I understand that I could save hundreds of dollars on long distance and be able to do amazing things like centralize all my phone numbers into a single phone number. But the confusion that would arise from having this application on my phone would degrade my experience.

If you'll excuse me, I need to place a phone call using Skype from my iPhone.

That post was made of pure, 100% win.
