Bought an Apple TV 2 days ago. Hooked it up, installed the update and it wouldn't stay connected to my network and kept telling me to turn on Home Sharing even though it was on.

Returned it to the Apple store for another one. Hooked it up and everything worked. QA FAIL.

Thanks for sharing

I was not sure what could have gone wrong but mine entered in restore mode ... had to restore it twice before getting it to work right the other night.
But it worked at the third attempt - hang on!

Disappointing

Very disappointing news. I'm glad I didn't have time to upgrade, but it really shows how low on the totem pole Apple considers the Apple TV.

Is it iTunes Radio

I am in UK so don't get iTunes radio, so it would be a different version download? Maybe a good idea for people to post location.

My ATV3 works fine so far.
I have been using Dev version of iOS 7 and Mavericks for a while and no real issues, but then i would say i don't use them to there full potential

Maybe they'll fix iTunes Radio while they're at it too....

Yeah such as iTunes Radio stops playing after certain amount of songs or hours played or gets stuck playing the next song and get a message error (1001) can not download where you have to skip to the next song because it just keeps buffering.

Sad that all this updates and problems, I hope some video quality issue for Netflix is not because of the update 6.0 and tested my connection and it seems perfectly fine. So I guess anyone who were able to update their Apple TV are fine?

Still no 3rd party apps, I'm in no hurry to upgrade...

AppleTV doesn't have the guts for apps. They only have 4Gb or 8Gb of storage space... And most of that is reserved for cache downloading HD shows at 1.5-3.0Gb each.

The only "Apps" you are going to see are the little UI changes which are all just custom menus put together by Apple. There is simply no room to share.

Ah, so this is probably why they haven't updated their website yet to show off all the new features. For what it's worth my update went fine but the wireless performance has decreased significantly, making streaming anything almost impossible.

Sadly it's not just Apple TV that's suffering. Attention to detail, something I used to admire Apple for, has disappeared from both hardware and software. Most people don't care, but I do. :(

I'll update my Apple TV once they revamp the OS so it doesn't look like rainbow vomit on my 60" flatscreen.

I'd love to see if this update will brick my Apple TV.

Unfortunately my 2 year old iMac has completely died and I have to take it to the Apple Store tomorrow instead. That was a well spent £1200.

That is all.

Since this is not a mobile device, but (generally) a stationary streaming device, is it really necessary to store apps on it, or just use the icon to access the app on the apple server and stream its contents back thru the device to the user.

I came across the news about bricked Apple TVs as mine was being updated. It took a lot longer than previous updates, so I was sure I'd have to make a trip to the Apple Store, but it eventually worked. Still, I'm very disappointed with this. Apple has to do a better job testing before releasing updates.

They must have pulled this as mine was downloading it, got home, checked for update, told me i needed an update, said it was going to take 63 minutes to download it, started the download.

i went and had my tea, did some DIY and came back about 3 hrs later, ATV still showed 5.3 and that no update was needed...

guess i now know why.

that is the thing with software no througly tested.....:( But again, how much of the bricked devices have special combinations of software/hardware....And hacks/mods.....?

Absolutely ZERO. Apple is a closed, locked down system and you cannot install ANYTHING (especially on the aTV) that they do not approve of. Actually, on the aTV you can't install a damn thing so what kind of special software are you talking about?!?!

Yeah, I know the aTV2's can be jailbroken but nobody would be upgrading if they were since they would loose their JB...

This is a total Apple fail....

My ATV 3 updated fine, but ATV 2 stalled out with the rapidly blinking light. Had to make a special trip to the store and buy a cable to restore it. Not too happy to find out that Apple released a faulty update.

my ATV3 got bricked and needed to connect thru my computer but weird is my ATV2 flawlessly updated just fine

Depends on the direction Apple is taking this. Release an SDK for it in the future? Hellz yeah it needs more space. Have it continue to be passed by, by other streaming devices? Nope, no space really needed.

At this point, I'm waiting for a hardware refresh, I'm not buying the current version("iPod touch 4"), that will be updated and then not brought along to the new ecosystem in a few short months.

Always find it strange how such a simple, standardised box like the the ATV can have so many issues. There's very little scope for user customisations (on ATV3 and non jailbroken ATV2), so how do Apple miss these issues in QA?

Exactly - can't even install an app on it. There should be ZERO excuses for such an epic testing/QA fail!
