I can see why this was pulled. Honestly, I'm surprised someone even considered approving it in the first place.

Even if you ignore the ignorant kid not actually understanding why they would need a mac and seemingly just asking dad for something really expensive without any thought or insight, the value of a Mac is highly debatable depending on the work being done.

When it comes to a laptop for university coursework, almost any laptop on the market will be sufficient, excluding some of the absolute lowest cost bargain bin stuff you might find at Walmart. You're not taking notes or writing papers any faster on a Mac or a PC. Depending on the applications needed for your coursework, a Mac might not even be able to run the necessary Windows only software.

Reliability is also something that leans more to a PC because most repairs on a PC can be made very cost effectively by independent repair shops. Repairs for a Mac trend closer to the replacement cost of a new device.

On social media, some people said that the ad was cringe or gross, so perhaps Apple pulled the video due to overly negative reception. To be clear, this is merely speculation, and there were others who found humor in the video.

Teenagers can be a tough crowd to impress.
one word: Microsoft.

They weren’t happy on how Windows was presented and hearing from rumors from close source (who shall remain anonymous since this is now legal matter) that their lawyers made quick phone call to Cook yesterday evening.

It’s being edited to tone the Window bashing down so it should be back later hopefully. (Unless they find that editing would miss the mark on the message and they shelve the whole ad campaign).

The worst part is Apple bought ad time for Game 7 of NBA Finals and part of this ad was supposed to air on Sunday. So now they may have to resort to airing the Safari privacy ad again which is almost year old using iPhone 15s instead of 16s.

It's like watching an indoctrinated tutorial in to some crazy Religion. I hope a lot of heads get rolled.

Maybe in the US? It’s been less than “decades” for me, and I think it’s still not a requirement here.
Depends on the field of study, of course. I can tell you for science / engineering disciplines colleges had computer labs way back in the 1980s (even earlier, for some); and, while not a requirement, many students in those fields were buying and using their own computers by the 1990s.

The STEM department I work in has had a laptop requirement for about a decade, although we still maintain computing labs.

The ad promotes plagiarism. Inability to think for yourself. We made the presentation for you. Here it is. Put your name on it. Especially since our Apple intelligence is too stupid to do one for you.

There is no more room for comedy or comedians unfortunately.

I have already wrote about this in more detail under the original article:
This is the most embarrassing presentation I have ever seen. Even if a child were in Kindergarten, it could make it better.
At Apple, it surpasses the "You need AI if you're a loser" commercial and is unbeatable in terms of corporate embarrassment.

The template and the commercial confirmed every cliché about stupidity, antisocial behavior, and consumerism that one could possibly have about Americans.

And no, it's not comedy when officially published as advertising on the own website/channel.

Just watch it. Didn't think it was that bad. Cringe at times but its not the worst thing i've seen out of Apple Park. Some of the Im a PC ads were worse. And i still get a visceral reaction to the 'Whats a computer' ad.

Guess the current generation has a very low threshold for being triggered and offended.

Sure. Apple, as the underdog 20 years ago, was able to release dozens of "PC vs Mac" commercials that were full of exaggerations and partial lies, but today Microsoft manages to "set to private" a single advertisement that is so bad it makes you cringe. Not even have let delete it.

Come out of your fanboy bubble. The "Microsoft is to blame for everything" conspiracies have really been outdated for several years.

Let me put it another way: if you thought even once during the ad or while reading through the presentation that it was intelligent, funny, clever, worth emulating, or had any added value, then go stand in the corner and be ashamed of yourself.

And the same goes for your Microsoft conspiracy theory.

The ad was funny, got my attention and does provide a lot of good points on why buying a Mac is better than buying a PC. They could do better but some of you should chill tf out. If this triggered you, google “better help” to get things sorted.

Yes, so did I. But you didn’t need to bring a computer to class, and you could do the required work in the computer labs. I mostly did, just because the software needed was already set up there.

The STEM department I work in has had a laptop requirement for about a decade, although we still maintain computing labs.
I suspect this wouldn’t fly here, or the university would have to provide the hardware when needed.

It's actually the other way around! Parents have to convince their kids to use a Mac, but they won't because they want gaming on PC.

Judging by her eyes i'd say she got stoned and thought she wrote a paper
She actually was on drugs. She said she had taken Benadryl for her allergies, and it was already about 10 pm by the time they filmed that segment. Because of how popular that ad was, she got to go to Macworld and meet Jobs. BTW, not being a computer geek, she thought Macworld was super boring. :D

And plenty of STEM people had their own computers in the 1980s. Particiulary CS and Comp Eng. And there were computer labs in the 1970s for CS and Comp Eng majors for sure. Of course those were not laptops that one brought to class. lol Vax VMS or an Apollo or a Sun workstation weren't very portable. Let alone a Cray.

^This is the real deal!
Get your potential customers as early as possible and encage them for life as ever paying foot soldiers!
Pretty much what Steve Jobs turned us all into, isn't it? He said Windows PCs were pedestrian and real creative people only use Macs. You had former shirt company MacSurfShop churn out a shirt that said, "Linux for Development, Mac for Productivity and Windows for Solitaire."

this is incredibly unsurprising. kids are extremely tired of ads that talk down to them, that try to be their “friend,” whatever. this whole ad was giving that to the extreme. also like, spare me the melodrama, spare me the attempted use of youth slang…it’s just ****ing cringe. kids are smarter than ad execs think.

making it thru this whole ad was painful lmfao. call it zoomer pessimism, but like…are yall surprised? zoomers are way more cognizant of the dark side of capitalism thanks to the Internet these days. can’t really be surprised that half of them are wholeheartedly rejecting it. (yeah, the other half is still way into overconsumption, that’s another discussion for another time.) 🤷

for engineering, my university requires a pc to run the software packages they use (as do many). wasn’t a problem when you can boot into x86 windows on a mac. now it requires dumping the mac for a pc sadly for most. though it gave my old intel macbook pro a new life for now.
