I think they pulled Big Sur too, I am getting an error trying to download it after it taking 3 hrs to download 300MB

iT'S INSANE THAT APPS NEED TO PHONE HOME TO SERVERS JUST TO OPEN

I hate hate hate hate where macOS is going. I hate app culture I hate subscription culture I hate smart things

Its part of the security of macOS. It phones home to see if the software is malicious or not. This has been a feature of macOS since the Lion release.

Wow, I mean, there can't have been that many first-day Big Sur downloaders for there to be this many server issues.
Obviously there’s a lot else going on than that. Floods of pre-orders for the biggest MacBook performance upgrades in history, floods of people continually checking statuses for the just-now-shipping iPhone 12 mini and Pro Max orders… plus launching Big Sur to the public, and all these new betas all at once. Probably the busiest day for their servers in the history of the company.

I believe this surpasses the MobileMe debacle of 2008

There are bots galore hitting websites hard trying to snag up Playstation 5’s today. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s overloading some nodes.

This seemed to have caused a lot of issues at my company. At least two dozen people had problems with their Macs coming to a crawl and/or apps just bouncing in the dock. Really does seem the notary server issue might have caused this issue.

Fortunately, it seems to be resolved (or at least mitigated) now.

For anyone getting a phone tomorrow, remember, if you update to the beta now, there's a few extra steps before you can backup/restore to your new phone. Remove the beta profile for now, get your new phone, restore to it, THEN put the beta back on :)

20 years from now there will still be people saying Steve wouldn't of allowed this.
back in the good olll days of 2010 the only thing Steve allowed was faulty antenna bands kiddos. Free bumpers for all.

No, they’ll be saying Tim wouldn’t allow whatever the new guy is doing. ;)

I was wondering when I couldn't do a search in Apple Maps today. Just stalled at "Searching...". I immediately switched to Google Maps to pull up the GPS navigation that I needed.
