STP=SoundTrack Pro, the major audio app in Final Cut Studio. The removal of the crossgrade shouldn't be news, as it's already been pointed out that the deal was up until March 19th. THat date has passed, so the deal is no longer offered. If a soundtrack pro user has waited this long, they're probably screwed. That's what happens when you procrastinate. In the "Final Cut Pro 6 To Debut At NAB? Final Cut Extreme Too?":https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/282167/ discussion thread, it's been mentioned MANY a time by Multimedia in particular that the crossgrade is gonna end soon, so postmark your offer NOW. Well I guess now is to late.

Hello Logic 8

A new Logic would be soo nice though :)

Oh my, tomorrow "ll wake up and I'll know, the Messe is in europe, I am 6 hours behind them, so Logic will have been announced at breakfast tomorrow IF it is renewed of course, perhaps it will not be.....

All the functionality of Logic, in a new OSX worthy interface, with all the bugs ironed out, and a few new functions added, the audio department as flexible as the midi department always has been for starters, a revamp and reorganisation of the environment would be great too :)

This should not be a suprise, as ever since the crossgrade was offered it said that the application had to be postmarked by March 23rd I think.
To make it a certainty that a new version is on the way I got FCS 5 a few weeks ago. You can all thank me!;) :D
No complaints however. I got a great deal and now qualify for upgrade pricing on FCS 6. I can hardly wait. It should be a really worthwhile upgrade. :apple: :apple:

I hope they don't drop the name Logic. That would be a disaster. Think of all the audio software, hardware, plugins, pro audio equipment, etc. that is all tested and works with "LOGIC." It is a name known in the industry for over 10 years:

http://logic-users.org/

Almost as ridiculous as dropping the name 'Final Cut Pro' to switch to another name.

Yayy. Looking forward to this update. I don't mind when it comes out, so long as it's ready and working from the go. They have had an awfully long time to develop Logic since September '04 though!

So, the expo (Musikmesse) starts tomorrow right? That would imply that Logic would be released today if it is released there?
Maybe it's a part of the next Final Cut Studio package. :)

Ars Technica

Ars Technica ran a story on the 27th of February saying there is possibly no upgrade to Logic 8, but instead there will be a new app aimed to be a protools killer. (not sure if I like that). Their source claims to be a logic employee (?) , and is even going as far as mentioning touch sensitive displays etc.
As usual, to be taken with a grain of salt.... We'll know tomorrow, as the MusikMesse show runs from the 28th till the 31st. Apple is represented by it's european unit, out of Cork, Ireland, and I happen to know that there is an important audio development unit there too, along with everything else I suppose so who knows...

Depends on what you consider to be important. Logic Pro as it stands kills ProTools in virtual instruments and effects. The next version of Logic will probably be even better.

If you are talking about how many instruments and effects come bundled for free, you are correct. If you mean implementation of instruments/effects generally, the truth is more complex. Logic is excellent for instruments, but not so good for effects.

As with most things in the Logic/Pro Tools debate, it comes down to whether you are using more audio or more MIDI. Each program excels where the other is weak.

I think there will be Logic 7.3:

Look there: http://www1.mipa-award.de/

Assuming it is not a mistake we can expect 7.3 upgrade.

It is a mistake.

It's a list of nominees for an award. They would hardly give an award to software which is not released yet - and actually being released at the show! I think they just got confused because the latest version is 7.2.3.

Mind you, after all this hubbub it will be typical if there is just a .1 upgrade!

Well, they've had expiration dates for the same crossgrade before and just extended them.

I wouldn't call it "procrastination" as much as "waiting to see if they ever update to a version that doesn't completely suck". It's still too early to tell, and I'm not willing to pay a couple hundred bux just for UB and not nearly enough bugfixes.

We'll see what's released on the STP front, I'm guessing apple is losing a paying customer by botching updates/upgrades to the app. Hopefully they'll just roll it into Logic instead.

"Couple hundred bux?" The crossgrade was $49.

I mean, unless you're talking about the upgrade price, but the upgrade hasn't gone anywhere so I don't see why you'd be talking about that. Only the crossgrade went away which is what we're talking about.

I'm talking about the upgrade. Is it still good or did it expire?

Nothing's happened to any upgrades. It's still there as a chioce if you try to buy.

The whole crossgrade thing was ONLY there to ease the transition over to Intel Macs since the Studio programs don't work under Rosetta. They figure that if you're still not worried about it by this point you can afford to just wait for Final Cut 6. So bye bye crossgrade.
