Interesting that they haven't allowed folks with the apps already installed from iLife to upgrade via the Mac App store.

It's a different system, and they were very clear that MAS can't mix with non/pre MAS

Which is why I suspect in the coming months they will stop preinstalling iLife. You might still get it free but via getting a download code to use in the store, just as they will do the free upgrades to lion for recent computer buyers

This is weird. I swore that my disk installed iLife apps had been seen by App Store (eg "INSTALLED") and today they aren't listed as installed.

Maybe I'm going mad.

A consequence of that process would be that you would get to upgrade iLife on all your Macs if you buy a new Mac. Not sure if that is something Apple would want to avoid or not.

It's not just you. Probably not showing as installed because the version on App Store isn't the same as what you have installed locally. After the update it'll probably show as installed.

That'll take away the experience of the Mac being up and ready to use in a few minutes. I can't see Apple doing this.

IM running Lion and i just tried to get them but was not coming through MAS, but instead coming through Software Update, this is interesting.

Did your iLife suite come preinstalled on the mac, did you buy it on disc form or was it bought from the MAS?

If it's the first two then it'll come through via software update like the article says.

slow downloads

Is it only me or became downloads from Apple VERY slow?

It was like 20 minutes or more to download the latest JDK update. Downloads were WAY faster some months ago.

So, as someone who had these programs installed prior to the app store, am I never going to recieve updates via the app store? It seems Apple should absorb prior installed apps, much like they will with songs for iTunes Match.

I am in the same boat. I purchased the iLife 11 family pack My updates stopped at 9.1.3. I would hope since Apple has moved everything over to the app store that they will move previously purchased still supported software there as well. This should include all software previoulsy purchased not just Apple software.

I am thinking about software I purchased from specific websites that may move over to the app store as well.

It would be very unfortunate if we all have to purchase a new copy (at the same rev) to automatically receive updates and stay current. :(

** Edit** OK so I tried software update instead of check for update from within the app. The updates are there, plus a bunch more.

new bug

This update seems to have introduced a new bug into iPhoto. I am now unable to browse time machine backups from iPhoto.

Clicking on Time Machine whilst iPhoto was open used to bring up an iPhoto Time Machine interface. Now it just brings up a normal Finder Time Machine one.

Anyone else seeing this?

I got my system updates as well. I'm actually shocked that there's an update for iWeb. (You mean they actually care a little about that program?)

GarageBand, iPhoto and iMovie now support full-screen mode in Lion GM. Doesn't appear to be there for iWeb and iDVD.

Is it still somewhat broken? I remember it acting really funny in Garageband when you opened preferences while in FS mode. Did they correct that?
