Isn't everything we as users share here "anecdotal"?

That doesn't mean things aren't true.
it’s not black or white. A “reported” UI glitch could affect some “small” number of iPhone users. And then it’s true that there is a glitch but it’s not widespread.

Contrast that to a universal bug in the calculator, where hypothetically users enter 1 plus 1 and the answer is three.

Anecdotal is simply not good enough. Evidence is required. That's the core of the problem and that's why the likes of Apple probably pay little attention to forums - there's so much opinion backed up with little science.
One person's bug may not occur for someone else. Can an issue be reproduced by others. What often happens is a spread of misinformation leading to contrived certainty.

People are free to discuss and share thoughts and experiences and provide as much or as little "evidence" as they like.

There's value to it all.

You are not judge and jury.

All are welcome!

I was just chuckling because you said you were done commenting on this topic yesterday ... and again today.
:) ;)

It's all good my friend.
Stay! Chat! We all learn from each other.
That's very kind. I know we all feel passionately about the ideas expressed here so there are bound to be strongly held views and people will defend their positions. I do try to listen to all sides and i agree with you - we all learn from each other. Thank you for your encouragement.

This is not a court of law, and when it comes to a producer-paying customer relationship, the last thing the producer wants to do is tell a customer reporting an issue that the burden is on them to convince the producer that a problem exists. It's not good business.

There is nothing "contrived" about someone relating that they have experienced an issue. You see multiple reports of the same issue regularly in this forum (and others online), but rarely an issue that affects 100% of users. Does the fact that incidence of the issue is < 100% mean it's by default a "nothing burger" and there is nothing to be done?

Every report of an issue, whether through a formal defect report or informal discussion is effectively "anecdotal." I know from experience that even a formal bug report that includes "steps to reproduce" may not actually reproduce the issue when developers or testers try to do so in their environment because there are many permutations of (hw, system sw, sw apps, settings, usage patterns, etc.) None of that changes the fact that the user experienced the issue, and would like to see it resolved.

You seem to be insisting people having discussions on a forum should not discuss issues they encounter unless they effectively diagnose the issue first. That's not really their job.

No disrespect, but I said the Apple Store App, where you purchase physical products from Apple.
Doh! I mis-read. Sorry about that. You're correct that the Apple Store app won't install on iOS 17. :( I can run the Apple Support app on my iOS 17 device though [but unsure you meant to include that app]. But yeah, the shopping app is a no go to install, which is odd, as usually the App Store will offer an older version of an app that runs on one's current iOS version.

How many eligible iPhone models are there?
How many combinations of software options/features?
How many different hardware configurations for each model?
How many with reduced capability due to battery age?
How many possible third-party applications and combinations thereof?

To me it's no wonder that some people experience few problems and others more problems (leaving aside the question of whether or not you like the look of the thing)

And other people are having a very good experience. But the points are:
1. I don’t over aggrandize bugs.
2. I more worry about bugs that prevent me from moving forward with an important task.
If you read some of the comments, the bugs are serious enough to stop users from completing tasks.

My phone doesn't even show the latest iOS 18 release as "also available". So I take the security vulnerabilities, or be forced to upgrade to Liquid Ass?

Same here. Mine does not show 18.7.3 update unless I opt in to “iOS 18 Beta” so I guess that is one possible way around the issue. Apple seems to care a lot less about getting users to patch vulnerabilities than getting them to update to 26 so they can tell us how wonderful it is that xx% of devices are running 26.
