first off, i'm an avid apple user. i'm not a fanboy, though.

the one thing i hate about OS X, though, is that it was first introduced in 2002, and has since had 6 revisions.

that's basically the same thing as using Windows 98 and having 6 revisions.

Can we count 10.6 as just a "revision?" It was totally re-written.

Windows 7 is ****, pro users can see it, normal users can see that in 2010 it can't even open a PDF. It is totally OT.

Can't they get it right first time? LOL. You can apply this to every software house in the last 30 years. And again, patches also intoduce new features and drivers.

LOL. I'm sitting here at work right now with Windows 7 64 bit telling me I need to install 4 updates for security that came out this week. I get updates about weekly from Microsoft.

VPN and voiceover

sounds like we are getting ready to hit the enterprise world hard. YAY :D I can't wait for the day when we are windows free, and all the MS office products run natively on a mac (that includes onenote and publisher). As for Project, Visio, access - there are better / lower cost alternatives. I do not run those anymore.

who needs MS products?

Graphics drivers. Yes. Catch up with the rest of the guys, Apple!

As someone already said, we have the power just not the drivers. SCII runs like a horror show and I'm using a 330M.

Here's to hoping everyone <3

The 11th was Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of the month.

Typically, Microsoft updates only once a month, not once a week.

i'll tell you what: windows 7 isn't updated once every other month with HALF A GB update.

As far as I'm concerned, the more bugs and security holes fixed by a software company the better. Personally, I'm glad Apple seems to "condense" them into less frequent but larger updates. After a decade of XP, I was so sick of seeing that "UPDATES ARE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR COMPUTER" balloon in the system tray almost every week it seemed.

since they're focusing on the graphic's drivers I wonder if this will include the sound output on the new MacBook Pros through the Mini Display & HDMI?

My understanding it was a hardware issue with intels chip sets that were preventing this previously. So if you really want sound out of the mini display port you will have to upgrade to the new hardware.

it was my mistake on thinking that the files did not overlap. i should have figured.

either way, it's almost a joke that they have to update it that often. can't they get it right the first time?

But W7 is updated like almost everyday with a "minor update" of some sort.

Six revisions in eight years is about par for the course. Consumer PC operating systems should be revised every 18 months: new hardware support, new standards and technology, new applications, improved performance, security, etc. Today's hardware would run very poorly with an eight-year-old operating system.

Such is the investment in progress.

Let's hope they fix VPN

Windows may be **** but at least its' VPN client works.

I have to run Windows in a VM due to the ****** VPN client on OS X.

What does windows even have to do with this? XD

Both OS get reasonable and managable amounts of updates. Back when I used linux it was much "worse" (Though I really dont see updates as a problem, I'm all for things developing).. A minute or two's delay for a reboot is usually the worst case scenario. Make a cup of tea or something...? Its not like the OS is unusable while it's downloading..

Updates are good!

... And I want new graphics drivers. ;)

SMB performance on a Windows network sucks

It seems that it's always addressed in an update, but SMB performance on a Windows network sucks.

It takes 20 seconds or more for me to see the contents of a Windows network folder. In Windows, it's nearly instantaneous.

Of course, it could be a multitude of problems with my particular installation (isn't it always?), but browsing network volumes seems like a low level OS activity that shouldn't be affected by, say, a Star Wars screensaver I have installed.

Please fix the horrible graphics glitches I see on my X3100 based MacBook. I know it's the worst integrated card ever made but I think you could pull this one off. There weren't any in 10.6.0!

Admittedly the post I quoted isn't really relevant to my question, but I wanted to get your attention, maybe you made another mistake...
About the Hackintosh system referenced in your signature, can you post the bill of materials for the computer you built with 2 quad core processors, a dual processor motherboard, 8 GB of RAM, and a 1.5 TB harddrive for $590? Does that include the video card, a power supply sufficient for the motherboard, a chassis, and incidentals (cables, screws, taxes, shipping, etc.)? Are the CPUs overclocked?

By the way, I get a little worried with each new point update running a few OSX86 machines myself.
