I got a negative 1 vote for my last comment but i am not running Apple.
I know how companies work and if they can find a way to capitalize on something they most certainly will.
Do i personally think it is moral ? no honestly i dont .
Will i be surprised if they do and use Steve Jobs birthday as a way to push product ? no i wont be the least bit surprised.

I agree. The Luna New Year period is all about family being together and enjoying this one time of year where the extended family is home.
It would be like a Chinese company coming to the USA and saying we want to limit your time off at Thanksgiving / Christmas / New Year so we can meet a deadline.

It won't happen. While there are way too many Apple users who show signs of being members of a cult, the people in charge aren't stupid. They understand that starting to do things like this would seriously hurt the company.

Even the date of Steve's death is magical. Just almost at the same day when iPhone 4S announced. You can't beat that kind of dedication.
Releasing iPad on Steve's birthday is an awesome tribute. But that would make Apple so predictable. Something I wouldn't like Apple to be.

Agree - the whole idea of a product announcement on the birthday of the late turtlenecked overlord seems really tacky and exploitive.
I hope that the Tim realizes that people expect more class from Apple than to do something so crass.
Even worse, would be a yearly "Jobs Death Day" Apple sale on 5 October.

I skipped the iPad 2 too give myself some time on the iPad and look forward to the iPad 3.

Other than a better front-side camera and a slight bump on the back side I wouldn't expect the iPhone 4S camera for the iPad 3. People don't whip out their iPad to snap photos like they do a phone.
February 24th happens to be my birthday as well if anyone needs any gift ideas...

It's cheesier than a Spielberg movie! Apple cashing in on their dead founder's birthday to sell ipads - No matter how you try to justify it, that's how it's going to look.
Of course if it were to be released on his birthday I would be earlier than expected so that would be a bonus.

After the iPhone 5 that seemed almost a certainty with all the supposed great sources being cited... hard to believe any of this tripe anymore.
Also, who the heck wants to take photos with an iPad anyway? I've had an iPad2 for about 6 months now and have yet to make a single photo with it.

Steve Jobs was a man.
But he did things that normal people could not (or did not think of).
Hence, people worshipped him as a god.
He's hardly the sole incidence of such a thing happening.
Also, Gates is presumably his actual name, and not a play on the founder of Microsoft.

I'm a big Apple fan, but when a product is pushed to be released by a certain date (Christmas shopping season, Independence day, Steve Jobs' birthday, etc.), I worry about corners being cut and QA lapses.
Every new revision of an Apple product comes out with annoying bugs. My 2011 17" MacBook Pro game with a missing lid magnet and a warped lid. I got a replacement, and this one had a slightly bad up arrow key and a bad light sensor. And this was just supposed to be an update to the internals. I didn't have the patience to wait for a while, because my 2007 model died right on time.
(Since I have AppleCare, I'm going to wait until I'm done with my degree this Spring before I get these minor problems repaired. I don't even care about the light sensor, the arrow key has to be pressed harder than normal SOMETIMES, and I use external keyboards most of the time anyhow. Still, when I pay $3000 for a system, I expect it to be perfect, but Apple couldn't manage to do that. What a shame.)

I agree 100%. Prefer Apple products, but all the worship stuff is just pathetic.
Seems like he was a decent human being in some respects. And not so much so in other respects. He steered the company from near ruin back to being profitable again. Is this what qualifies for "sainthood" now?
