Here's an archive of AppleInsider from 2009, two years before Jobs passed away.

Still shows a list of resellers selling Apple products for sometimes hundreds of dollars under Apple's list.

Thanks for the "inCider" link! Actually did not know of this.

Still, that Feb 2009, the biggest discount $300, is for a $2000 MacBook Pro, that is only 15% on a 6 month old machine update,
Versus 10% (Edit: NOT 30%, had Wetware glitch) on a high demand new family of iPads

Also note, the current Appleinsider prices show no discount on any of the 10" iPads.

Yes it is speculative.

Its recognizbly cheaper to make a mini compare to fullsize so at 299, apple pretty much still make a lot per unit.

im just worry about ipod touch 5 lol. Wish apple could release sales figure separated by items.

The margins on a mini are actually much less than on the full size iPad.
This in part has resulted in Apple's legendary profit margins to shrink collectively from above 40% to the mid to low 30%. Apple selling a ton of minis is good and bad but when it comes to profitability it is definitely bad. I believe Apple was caught off guard by how many minis they sold.
