For the same reason that you obviously keep ignoring, that some people have metered connections and want to save bandwidth and MONEY. Is that too tough to understand?

Exactly.

It is also much, much nicer to search, browse, find and evaluate apps on iTunes than on a small screened iOS device.

One would think that Apple would separate Music, Apps, Podcasts etc on MacOS at some point, like they did in iOS.

Really? How does having other options in the dropdown menu affect the operation when Music is selected from said menu?

How does having extraneous functions buried in a music app really benefit anyone?
Do you make smoothies with your toaster?

What you have is familiarity with a bad habit, not a good or logical workflow.

When was iTunes solely about music? To claim that it is mission creep solely based on the name is a bit misplaced. But I suppose it is the same for people who complained that the iPad Pro is not Pro because it doesn't do what they want it to.

Uh... v1... kinda why they named it 'iTunes'.

I know it was advertising bs, but I´ll quote it anyway, maybe some of us "Think different".

If my Toaster can make smoothies without being larger than a toaster-only, without being more complicated to use than a toaster-only, etc., why should it matter? To make a more apt comparison, is there any harm if your TV set-top box can be used to play games as well as watch TV shows and movies?

That's a very simplistic view to have. I look forward to your complaints about the feature creep of the iPhone... kinda why they named it "iPhone".

Try again.

"An iPod, a phone and an internet communicator." -Steve Jobs

Version 1... an iPod, a phone, and internet communicator...
It's an iPod, + a phone, + a breakthrough internet communicator... Get it?
It even even shipped with a variety of apps.

Thanks for playing... but hey, as a consolation... enjoy that last ever version of over bloated iTunes!

Bwhahaha!

Hmmm. Apps that are updated in iTunes 12.6.3 are not being updated on any iOS device when syncing over USB. Anyone have this issue?

I can update apps from iTunes fine on 12.6.3

I went from 12.6.2 to 3, did you go from 12.7 to 3? Maybe there is an issue there?

12.7 to 12.6.3, Mac pestered me to upgrade and then did it somehow without my acknowledgement.

I hate it when that happens!

That is how I found out I was unexpectedly on 12.7 - somehow I think these upgrades change the preferences back to "auto-updates"

This might be mentioned here but I couldn’t find it, once I install this version of iTunes, I can’t transfer purchases from my iPhone to my Mac using it. When I hit transfer purchases it says it’s doing it but it does not transfer any apps. Is it still possible to transfer apps from my phone to my Mac?

So now that iTunes 12.7.1 is out:

https://www.macrumors.com/2017/10/31/apple-releases-itunes-12-7-1/

when can we expect a corresponding 12.6.4 upgrade?

How is one to tell the upgrade path or instructions?
I don't think there's going to be another 12.6.x update. 12.6.3 was a one-time update for those enterprise installations that needed app support. It wasn't intended for individuals. Unless Apple reverses their decision, consider 12.6.3 nothing more than "buying some time" before the hammer drops and an iOS update will require a version of iTunes that does not have app support.

Sounds good but it should be something that is free from Apple, it shouldn’t cost me $40 for a third-party app to do it
If you want to do something that is not on Apple's "happy path" it's going to cost you. But for me, I wouldn't pay that much for something that Apple could easily shut down with a minor point update to iTunes.

I've only been playing around with the Free version of iMazing for a few weeks out of interest and the App Store function works, so I don't think you need to pay for full version by looks of it.

However, I do agree this should be made available for free by Apple, I'm just putting it out there that this may be a solution at some point, so long as Apple don't shut it down of course.

Can I get confirmation on this from others? Been holding out on upgrading to High Sierra from Sierra. to avoid losing 12.6.x. But if I can upgrade to 12.6.3, then upgrade to HS, and 12.6.3 remains, then I'll finally do it. Thx.

Just to confirm - update to 12.6.3 from 12.6.2 went well, just like a standard update. I then updated to High Sierra, and still have 12.6.3, so all good. Well done Apple!

The library won't be compatible. You need to hold Option while opening iTunes and create a new library. Maybe there is someone who can try editing the iTunes library as it is probably the version number in the library file has been updated and prevents it opening.
Can't you use time machine to revert the iTunes folder back to the previous version and then it will updated it from 12.6.2 to 12.6.3?

iTunes keeps previous libraries. It's easier to just step back with those to find one that's compatible. The problem is that the older library file may not be synchronized with what's actually in the media folder.
