Why? Balmer is no longer the CEO of MS. He's enjoying a very wealthy lifestyle on the board of directors with very little interaction with the marketing or development.

Got an iPhone, Mac and iPad myself but it sounds like somebody has a bad case of bias. ;)

Love your dry humor. Perfect dead pan. Very funny.

How can someone sell 500 million phones "quietly"?

Apples never done anything quietly except not respond to bugs or other problems until they're good and ready. They dictate how it's going to be and have cultivated a following that refuses to challenge them. It's one of Steve Jobs greatest demonstrations of power and control.

You say it like you are somehow unbiased. But I know and you know, deep in your heart of hearts. Apple is insanely great!

I like Apple. I like other companies. I'm biased in the sense of liking what I enjoy.

And this means I will likely be able to get a used iPhone5 cheap. I've no interest in a larger screen, I have an iPad for that, but a5 or 5c would be a nice upgrade.

You can get my shinny iPhone 5S just a few weeks before iPhone 6 announcement. It is going on eBay. I definitely want a bit larger screen (but not bigger then 5") I have wanted for long time just did not like any of the other phones or platforms.

Meanwhile Microsoft publicly announces it sold its 500th Windows phone and is planning a five-day event in Vegas to include dancing bears, the Blue Man Group, unicorns, and Steve Ballmer in a hot tub.

Selling 500 million of anything in under 7 years would be an achievement of note but fully featured phones like iPhone is incredible stuff.

I have to salute Apple.

Define winning.. and define best?..

It is pretty obvious. Unless you are trolling.

Maybe they did!
Maybe it was in the box, inside the info sleave with the sim pin.
It's either sitting on stock self somewhere.
Or the person who brought it had the sim put in in the store so never opened the packet and found it there instead of the apples stickers.

Or it just never existed.

umm... ok?
