I just upgraded 10 minutes ago after months of deliberation. I had to move all my videos out of Photos onto my Mac because my family plan use of 200GB was getting razor tight. We hit the limit a few times!
**** apple for not giving users more choice. I don't need 2TB, but I would like 500GB option. Thankfully I have 20% off iTunes gift cards loaded in my account so i'm actually paying $8 a month.
It's a crazy rip off and they know it. I am in th same situation. Most people probably cave after realizing how much work it is to manage photos and videos manually so as to not exceed the threshold.
I have a family plan also and it's been maxed out for a few months. I am not upgrading because I don't want to pay $10/month that seems like a rip-off.
The main thing I don'tlike is there is no consumer choice. I can't just move to another cloud provider. Apple has locked it down and locked me in. It was very convenient until we hit the limit.
Neutral consideration would say yes, no problem, any option other than extending my storage is a huge pain, lots of work, and definitely not worth saving these $120 / year.
But emotion says no, **** off, I don't like to be strong-armed, forced, and I know you set up your systems to do just that. It's like giving in to blackmail, there'll be more coming and it doesn't feel good.
How did Apple stray so far from its values? And yeah it was always going to happen once they got into the services business because services businesses can only increase revenue by squeezing locked in customers, it's just too tempting.
I don't thikn I will do it. I will switch the entire family to Android - Google is running the exact same racket there by the way, but Google is Google, you'd expect nothing less.
