100% agree. And Apple is not alone in adjusting pricing due to currency exchange rates, a lot of mfgs do

It's share price was the most expensive in the world today, or it was the highest valued company in the world, and they have raised priced on iPhones and all services.. yeah seems about right. Doesn't matter if it is exchange rates or not we all know iPhone price rises are coming September.
over the last two decades or so, apple has done a good job of setting a budgeted jpy/usd exchange rate for the coming year for its products its launching over the coming year. and although there have been mid-year corrections they have been rare. this year is different, the JPY is predicted to weaken even further.
but the bright news might be that if the JPY stays within the current band, then we may be getting a peek at the retail price of the 18, 18Pro, and Air2 models to be launched in japan within the next 3-10 months. it depends on if these increases also are factoring the price of RAM.
apple loves to be able to say something like "we've kept the same retail price" in its keynotes. so raising it now, factoring in both exchange and RAM will allow them to market the new models using the same marketing language as usual.

If exchange rate is to blame, I dread the price hike Tim is going to slap on Canada.
That's why I'm sticking with my HTC Windows Phone. Also Im really enjoying driving my Saturn and working for Enron. I'm also planning to go to Fry's Electronics this weekend.

The issue is that when the Yen gets better, Apple still keeps the price the same and does not lower it.

It’s also worth remembering that iPhone prices have traditionally held steady in spite of inflation, meaning that iPhones have actually gotten cheaper in the US over time.
A $100 price hike sounds about right to restore the price of the iPhone back to what it originally should have been, and this is just before we account for the impact of higher component prices.
Apple changes its prices for local markets as the local currency value depreciates. Not the first time it has happened. Bad for customers in the region. The upcoming 18 series will definitely be costlier globally.

I went with Deep Blue 17 Pro Max, wife went with Silver 17 Pro Max last September and since then I’ve regretted not getting my the silver. I think it’s one of the best looking iPhones in years. Orange looks pretty bad in person. But I’m glad they’re offering bright colors. Just wish they’d have offered black. Would’ve looked amazing with the aluminum chassis.

Friends just visited and said other than airfare everything is cheap.
When I went 20 yrs ago the dollar bought ¥90. Now it’s ¥150 or so.

After raising prices on all Macs and iPads worldwide last month, Apple has now increased the price of iPhone models in Japan.
As spotted by the Spanish blog iPhoneros, the iPhone 16, iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max all received price increases on Apple's online store in Japan today. Prices increased by up to 11%.

Apple attributed the Mac and iPad price increases last month to the ongoing memory chip shortage, which has driven up chip prices. In this case, however, the increases are likely due to the Japanese yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar over the past year.
Apple did not raise iPhone prices today in the U.S. or any other countries that we checked.
Apple also raised the prices of iCloud+ and Apple Music plans in many countries today, including Japan, so price increases are a theme this Friday.

That's certainly what the AI financial speculators might want, but I absolutely do not agree with, and will not buy into that BS narrative.

I’m guessing you had no idea tourists with passports get 10% off for tax exemption.
well, 1. you are wrong, Apple does not provide any tax deduction anymore. 2. Apple does not even sell the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) in stores anymore in Japan, you have to buy online (basically a huge barrier for tourists) 3. I said you did not do the math - because the Yen is so low, it is still many hundred Dollars/Euros cheaper (even without tax exemption)

Who says tourists have to buy from the Apple Store and not other retailers which offer tax deduction?
Who says tourists have to buy Pro/Max instead of mainstream models?
Tourists across SE Asia routinely go to Japan to buy an iPhone for 10% less and eat and shop for the low JPY.
