There are problems with the economy and the cambial fluctuation in Brazil, but it's still true that the Apple conversion currency has always been more expensive than the competitors, even with a local factory doing the final assembly for some of their products (by the way, it's not a significant assembly line, it's just to have fiscal advantages).

And it will actually no make a difference. Apples sales will be higher than last years.

I am more productive on a Mac, my time has value (to myself and my family), when my laptop needs replacing I will buy another Mac laptop. End of story.

Mac Sales will be the smallest increase in 5 years. You're productivity, and your family are of no interest to me. :apple:

Short thinker, blaming forex is easy, how to make products reach to user is hard. Unless china booming in cost, they can give reason to hike price. Maybe they will get lower margin in some country, but isn't that to indirect promotion to users? & looks like less selfish & honest. When Microsoft come back to user, apple just isolated them. & the apple vs ms circle will turn back. The different?, no more steve jobs to cure the company.

And when you make your product cheaper in one country, people from another country go and buy from there.

Which as it turns out is precisely what people are bitching about, they think (because they can do math/logic) that Macs are cheaper in the US and want to know why they, in NZ , have to pay more.

Simple solution, make them the sam price (within a small margin) the same price all over the world.

Regardless of how much we whinge about it I seriously doubt anything will be done about the price hike in the short term. Outside of the US (or possibly China), the rest of the world is not Apple's biggest markets. The reason we're so frustrated is because our levels of income do not match the cost for buying an Apple product and our spending capacity has taken a massive hit.

Apple seems to be adamant we'll keep paying exorbitant prices for their goods but is it sustainable? I don't think so. We won't be buying more often, that's for sure.

Thats why I buy Apple, because I dont need to replace my computer as often, because I dont waste my time fixing it, why I dont use anti-virus, and why I am more productive.

Over the life time of the computer, Apple works out cheaper for me.

Entry level 27" iMac is now $2,799 in Australia.

I don't need a 5K display, so seriously looking at Windoze computer
for my next upgrade, after switching to Mac about 10 years ago.

I can't justify spending that much on a new computer.

Nooooooo .....

I'm just glad i bought my early 2015 Retina when I did. Dam u Apple...I guess prices would have to gone at some point.

People buy apple product just because of they just work. Basically normal apple user don't want any hastle buying product from other country, then no official local support.

...and power converters/adapters... don't forget that.

It is true,,, I bought my previous Mac from Hong Kong and saved $900 dollars, however customs flagged it when entering Australia again (import tax). This was the old unibody aluminium with internal super drive speaker grills either side.

You buy the computer overseas, you buy Applecare at the same time. That way you DO have local support for 3 years.

This is exactly what I did with my first Mac Mini Server a C2 Duo running Snow Leopard Server. Even after I paid shipping, GST,Applecare it was cheaper. The Only issue was that the power supply was 110v only, but I had a transformer so I did not care. It is still running acting as a print server, dns server, and runs on my workbench with my Logic Analyser and Arduino gear plugged into it.

Lucky I got my 13 inch retina 256GB for only $1,910 last month from a third party retailer seeing as they're $2,699 in New Zealand now.
Whoa, you have saved quite a lot. :D
Glad to see that I have save quite a bit when purchasing PowerDVD 15.

Just like most things in this world it's not sudden, but when it comes it comes. Mac sales were already in decline. One doesn't have to be a genius to extrapolate further.

If the hardware was premium as the price is i would keep my mouth shut, but it's far from premium. R9, 24 GB fusion drive, soldered ram on smaller iMac, no discreet GPU, you can go on an on.

  • Mac sales have been consistently increasing y.o.y., with the last year an increase of almost 10%.
  • 95% of customers walking into an Apple Store for a Mac have got no idea what "soldered ram", "discrete GPU" or "R9" are and even if they did know it rarely plays a role in their buying decision (hence the increase in sales).
  • None of the criteria you mention (Soldered ram etc) etc are indicators of a non-premium computer. By that rationale all custom PCs would be premium computers, whereas in most cases they are cheaper than off the shelf PCs.

Brazil taxes are the issue. There economy is highly protected so there are huge import duties to be paid on goods. Again nothing to do with Apple.

http://www.dutycalculator.com/country-guides/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-Brazil/

You probably voted for the PT and is now complaining about the prices Apple charges there. Why don't you say that the corrupt Government of Brazil charges the most exorbitant import taxes of any country in the world and then you get the price Apple is charging for its products in Brazil. Apple is 100% correct. They are not a non profit organization and have to keep their margins otherwise they should just not sell in Brazil. You want a cheaper Apple product? Go complain to Dilma, Lula and the gang that is laughing at you right now.

Yes, there something to do with Apple. Even if we have loads of taxes, it's not over 100% the original value. And what the hell are you on about PT or whatever? I didn't support them.
Macbook Pro Retina 15" is currently R$3000,00 higher than the same in the US with 100% taxes.

As I said earlier "Currency rate is 1/3.8 right now. Even if we multiply US$ 2000,00 x 4, thats R$ 8000,00.
Even if Apple was taxed ONE HUNDRED %, it would still be R$ 3000,00 less than what they are asking for."

Awesome nothing to worry about then, but whatever you're smoking i'd cut on that.

I was in South Africa this week and the local store said they have had their prices increased too.

The shareholders would only agree to this if it would increase profits in the long run. It will not happen though, because up till now Apple customers are less sensitive to price (hence the higher pricing segments in which Apple operates) than other customers. This doesn't hurt Apple, they know it and therefore are "brave" enough to increase their prices.

A bit of a shame but probably true

so if you were to add on 9.45% taxes for Tennessee it comes to $4103, or about $90 difference
UK/EU regulatory requirements will add on a small margin too.
No, it doesn't - the price I quoted was $2999, which is under $3300 with Tennessee tax ;)
(I quoted that price, then local VAT on top of it for comparison, which might have confused you!)
