I was wondering the same thing.
I think that will depend on how well they can manage the thermal output and battery life. An iPhone with M1 and 8GB or 16GB would be like having a micro iPad Pro. The iPhone are approaching that point already, so it is possible.

It's kind of crazy people are using the same (M1) or basically the same (A14) chip from iPhone Mini's all the way to 24" iMacs
Yes it's crazy, but goes more to show Apple's drive to save money than anything else.

Back in the old days when printing 2 pages per minute was considered fast, companies such as HP would sell high end and low end printers with the primary difference being the speed. As it turns out, the slower printers were more expensive to produce. Why?

They used mostly the same parts in all printers, but they'd add either firmware or hardware throttling to the CPUs of the slower printers to slow them down, where as the "fast" printers had less modifications.

Apple's going to even less lengths to save money. They're pretty much saying all their computers are the same so you're just a fool for paying more for one than the other. I have a 2019 iMac and M1 Mac Mini for work. In CPU intensive tasks, the M1 is much faster. However, where the GPU is concerned, or where RAM is concerned (I do some video and photo editing), the iMac with a dGPU and 40GB RAM crushes the Mac Mini.

The least Apple could have done was take advantage of the iMac's footprint potential and provide more GPU power or RAM capability. There's no need, neither aesthetically nor pragmatically, for "maximizing the minimalism" of the iMac's profile. People don't generally carry these things with them to and from work, and making them too thin puts them in the uncanny valley of tech. They're not quit thin enough to be portable, but not thick enough to look like more than a pricy toy on a stand that wimpers when Photoshop flexes its muscles.

GREAT!
The APPLE M1 world
Put an M1 chip in everything to simplify the manufacturing process
Every Machine from an iPad Pro to a Mac mini to an iMac has the same exact performance in it.

Those questioning stock, the local Apple stores are very good for having stock to hand/having it replenish quickly. iPhone 12 Pro and MacBook Air my last 2 examples where online delivery said weeks and my local just had them in for collection. I suppose having retail stores in prime locations they’ll prioritise stores having stock where they can.

I'm very pumped that the iPad Pro is getting an M1. I can't wait to see what Apple has planned for it since an M1 seems like overkill for iPad OS.

These will be readily available, trust me. No one is beating down the doors to get one. Majority of the public doesn’t even know it exists lol.
Have you paid attention to Apple’s sales? People know their products exist, quickly. The only reason they would be “readily available” is because Apple has the best supply chain the world and they can get massive amount of product to customers quickly.

That said, it will still be constrained in the beginning. Watch.

I intend to buy one of the 11" models... BUT, I probably won't buy at launch, little reason to jump over my 2020 just because it's "faster". If it had the improved screen that'd be different.

I'm not sure I buy the shortage arguments, I actually think Apple is going to intentionally reduce production a bit to increase demand, build hype, etc. It's marketing at this point.

Expect scalpers to get their hands on these and try to flip them for double on eBay, something that I think will backfire as I'm willing to get it sells out within minutes on the 30th, but will be readily available and easy to buy no later than mid-May.

Alright folks. Something massive is about to happen at WWDC in June in regards to iPadOS, Pro Applications, and the new iPad Pros (especially the 12.9 one). This may be the most future-proofed product Apple has ever released and for good reason.

If you're on this forum and you've been on the fence about an iPad Pro in general, buy on April 30th and don't think twice.

I just wish the Retina XDR display was on the 11" also. The larger one is just a bit too large for me to travel with.
Same :/

I have no need or wish for a 13" iPad - the 11" is the right size - but won't be buying it without the higher-end display.

Why you don’t think so? Makes no sense actually. I will wait 2 years just in case, as I want a better screen. No rush.
I could be wrong. I just think the Pro in the past wasn’t updated every year like the iPhone, but maybe that will change. As far as the XDR, it seems like this might only be for high end models — but I could wrong about this too.

Not really. The iMac 24 is limited to the capabilities of the M1 SoC - which means it is can only have 4+4 CPU / 8 GPU cores and 16GB of RAM on the SoC package. That is a limitation of the M1. To have a more capable iMac would mean a new SoC (M1X or whatever they call it)....and this just isn't ready yet.

The iMac 24 is positioned at the same entry level as the other M1 Macs, but in desktop all-in-one format.

It is what is available right now, and this level of performance is enough for a large proportion of users.

A larger iMac with a much more capable SoC will be coming, and possibly a second tier of iMac 24" models with the new Apple Silicon chips.

When I bought the 2020, I went to the 12.9” model. I kind of regret it. The big screen is nice at times, but it’s less portable, and a bit too much footprint for my nightstand, etc. I mean, I’m not what most people would term a small guy, but I still preferred my older, smaller pro model.

That said, like other posters here I would really regret not getting the XDR screen. So I’m a bit torn. The money isn’t really the issue, it’s within my toy budget, but I just don’t know that I want to have an even-bigger 12.9” model. I guess I’ll probably wind up getting one or the other, since my wife isn’t happy with the old keyboard on the previous (2018? 2019? Don’t remember) pro model I handed down to her.

Guess we’ll see on launch day.

And you are just making this up, why?

Suprised to hear the line about Apple asking TSMC to "ramp up production". I thought TSMC was already going full-throttle.
