Nothing is more frustrating than trying to buy a product and not being able to. You lose all of the consumers who were going to buy your device on impulse, because when you can't get the iphone WHEN you want it, you're slowly not going to want it. By the time you don't have to wait in line for hours, you will have moved on from you intense desire to buy an iphone.

This is why I never ended up buying a Wii. I tried and tried, but every store was out of stock. And eventually, I stopped trying, and now I don't want one anymore, so I will not buy one. I bought an xbox 360 instead :D

I fully agree. One poster said he waited for over two hours before he could buy his iphone....in a lot of European countries users have to sign up for a waiting list and have to wait two to six weeks before they get their iPhone. It almost seems Apple is flying them in one by one. A lot of shops don't have supplies since the introduction on july 11th...and don't expect it until september. I don't know what Apple is doing....but my interest is fading away.

Dude, please fix your signature. Any Mac owner knows the proiducts begin woth a small i and not a capitalone. A few less :apple: wouldn't hurt. :D

Now if they entered the Chinese market with unsubsidized phones they could probably sell 50 million, but otherwise they're thinking too big.

1. a lot of phones are sold in china, but not 50m worth $199 upfront + $70/month for 24 months.

2. there's no iphone 3g compatible 3g network to speak of in china.

yeah, hopefully some o2 stores in the uk will start getting the white ones in. all the apple stores seem to be gettin em, but no bloody o2 stores!

well there is still a line at the 5th ave store, the iphone is selling like hot cake!

Right and there are still lines down here in Louisiana too at the Apple Store in Baton Rouge

People want the 3G iPhone quite badly and I suspect that if AT&T stores get shipments a little more often, sales could continue going sky-high for Apple. I only say AT&T stores because down here people are buying the 3G phones from AT&T stores due to the closest Apple Store being 70+ miles away

I find it really sad that :apple: pushed the release in as many countries as they've done on July 11th. In only fifteen days another twenty countries?
They should've first tried to meet the demand in the existing markets rather than introducing it to more countries that could maybe get one container load of iPhones. After that they'll be waiting just like the most of us to get their hands on this mystery that's been called the iPhone 3G. So far I've seen one. And that would be the test model in my apple store tethered to a sound dock.

I've been planning a trip to NYC with friends for a few months. We're going up in September. But due to the new policy in the US I can't even enjoy the two hour wait for an iPhone.

It really makes me sad:(. I hope this isn't a marketing strategy, but simply a calculation error.

im in australia and i decided to get the iphone on prepaid

i lined up outside optus on the 11th and was #13 in line, but because i didn't pay the deposit (couple months before u had to pay it) i had to go on the raincheck list.

i am first on the list. as of today i still have not got my iphone and was told that it could be another 3 weeks!!

i want my iphone :(:mad::(

In terms of marketing buzz, Apple gets plenty of free advertising due to the ongoing shortage and pent-up demand for the iPhone. Realeasing in more countries will increase the market for the iPhone. Apple is following a business model that has been successful for the company in the past.

I hope you have some availability of phones soon. I was able to purchase two 16GB models 1 week after release at a local Fido store (I'm in Canada).

That's a huge number of phones! 38,4 Mio phones a year! If Apple would manage to sell those, it would be competing with Nokia for the top-spot of smart-phone sellers.
