All MobileMe email accounts are automatically translated to @icloud mail.

People can send email to the @me or @mac email addy and @icloud addy will get it and visa versa.

I also just tested that, but it was bounced back exactly as others had observed. Thanks for the response, though! :)

I have a @me.com email which I set up on my iPhone. I already migrated to iCloud and can now access my @me.com email though that. At what point can I switch to the icloud.com domain if I want?
What I really miss (the only thing that I really used) is a functioning bookmark sync. The bookmark sync in iCloud is totally borked. Worthless (for me that is).

Nooo, my ****** first year assignments on iwork.com and the group projects I could never convince anyone to join me on iwork.com, what will become of thee :p

Sent myself email from my work pc to my home mac's email using @mac, @me, and @icloud. Only the @icloud bounced back. The @mac and @me both made it to my Mac Mail.

I sure hope Apple comes out with some better explaination about all this. Do I need to register a new @icloud account, or will they be creating it for me? Will they be killing/discontinuing my old @mac or @me accounts? I sure hope they're not going to rob the username I've been using since the 80s from me.

Bye bye Mobile Me

I moved nearly everything to Hostexcellence.
I still use iWeb to create and manage "gallery" photo pages on the Hostexcellence site but it is not a simple as the old way using iPhoto.
My tips are here:
http://www.mpainesyd.com/filechute/mobile_me2hostexcellence.pdf
(I created that domain name in Hostexcellence)

I use to use Filechute for managing public files on Mobile Me. I now use it for Hostexcellence.

This is just one many alternatives to Mobile Me, of course.

What about Snow Leopard support

Great. Not that I'll miss MobileMe that much, but I'm not planning on moving to Lion/Mt Lion anytime soon. I was under the impression that they were going to offer iCloud for Snow Leopard. Is this still going to happen?

Same here. I just tried emailing @me.com and @icloud.com. The @me.com worked but the @icloud.com just bounced back as failed.

I believe signing in to an existing iCloud account from an iOS 6 device activates the @icloud.com alias. My source is MacRumors.

I'm personally holding out for an iCloud address @mammals.org.

Apple never announced any intent to bring iCloud to Snow Leopard. Moreover, iCloud has been out for an entire year. Accept reality: iCloud is never coming to Snow Leopard.

If you want to complain, contact Apple, but be aware that people have been complaining to Apple about the lack of iCloud Snow Leopard support for a year.

I'll miss you, MobileMe! You were way better then iCloud... Bye, iDisk... Bye, Galleries... Bye, iWeb...
iCloud offers most of what MobileMe did. And some stuff it didn't. For $99 less. In other words, for free.

iDisk can at least partially be replaced by Documents in the Cloud (a part of iCloud) or a separate app like Dropbox (see signature).

Galleries are more than replaced by iCloud Journals.

iWeb? Although I enjoyed it, frankly, it was only used by total amateurs. Try Coda 2 and its companion, Diet Coda. Or Weebly. Or any other website making and/or publishing service.

No. iCloud is one of the greatest incentives to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.

Sorry, bro.

Edit: cvaldes beat me to it. :)

Here's a dumb idea but why didn't Apple just move users over to iCloud and send them the connection details or was that too hard...

Sorry but I'm yet to get iCloud as Apple has not given me a new 2012 iMac with ML and I'm stuck using a G5 and Leopard.

Graphics like these always make me want to crack open Photoshop, so I did.

Will miss the Gallery more than anything else. I will stick with my me.com address....

I didn't really care about this until a download link for something was hosted on MobileMe. Great, now there are more broken links.

MobileMe was kinda useless. I just hosted my iWeb stuff on Dropbox, and now I just host it by myself.

No iCloud is absolutely NO incentive to move, at least not until the basic stuff is working. For a very large number of us (judging by this and Apple's own forum) it doesn't.

So I just tested that, sent myself an email to my username@icloud.com and it bounced back as not a valid email address. I have the same problem with myusername@mac.com that is no longer working.

Can anyone help? I'd like to start using myusername@icloud.com rather than @me.com ... thank you!

That is a feature found only in the iOS 6 betas, it's not actually live yet. So you'll have to wait a bit longer

Apple never said that, only rumor sites. You need to migrate your account ASAP or you risk losing it. There's a place to say not everything is iCloud compat. You'll be able to keep your email going but not any of the syncing stuff. Which is better than nothing or having your whole account name etc lost when they start purging

.

For one, not everyone had lion. So if they had just done behind folks backs a bunch of folks would have been screwed

Second, it is a great way for them to find which accounts have been abandoned so they can purge them and release the usernames

noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously wtf ?!?

this and ping

im starting a petition :D

What I meant is that :apple: is intentionally not releasing iCloud for Snow Leopard so that more people will pay out to upgrade to Lion / Mountain Lion.

What basic stuff isn't working? I'm on Mountain Lion (see here) and everything I have on iCloud works fine.

My @mac.com bounces back. It is also my iTunes Apple ID, which causes me problems on the iPhone with iMessage. My @me.com works.

I never used this service. Is it possible for me to get a mac.com or me.com email account?

My bad. I've been using IOS 6.0 for so long I just figured everybody was the same.

I guess it will start working when IOS 6 is released and/or in a couple of days after MobileMe has fully transitioned to iCloud.

Admin play date!

So after years of service time do they let the Admins into the data center to start pulling plugs? Do the finally get to meet their nemesis XJ-305 server... With a screwdriver!!!!
