Absurd to come out with a 16", which is .6 inches larger than the current 15. Either Apple is going to do a 17" or replace the 15 with a 14". something is not right here

They have a 12 and a 13 today. Diagonal screen size isn't everything.

I think someone did the math on the rumored pixel dimensions of the 16-inch MBP & determined it was for a 16.4-inch panel. That would make it about an inch bigger.

Regardless, based on the diagram included with this FCC filing, it's certainly NOT for the 13-inch MBP with Function Keys. This diagram has the vents flanking the sides which the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Function Keys (sans Touch Bar) doesn't have. So it could be a 13-inch MacBook Pro with 32GB of RAM (as speculated by 9to5Mac).

who's asking for a 16 or 17 inch display?
13 is ideal for small, 15 for large and far less portable

all I want is ... a keyboard that works . that's all
USB-A ports would be convenient but not as critically essential as a keyboard that works

sure big ram would be nice, but for me at least, I gave up on Apple creating MacBooks that can perform without heat/thermal issues .. so now when I need power I use a cloud instance with big ram, big cpu and Nvidia CUDA if needed ..

which leaves creative design .. having a quality display with accurate colours and wide gamut is helpful when I'm not connected to a big colour calibrated professional monitor.

please don't ruin the trackpad!

16 inch, non touch bar, latest butterfly or old keyboard
14 inch, non touch bar, latest bufferfly or old keyboard
= selling like hotcakes

gen 1 butterfly = fail (.....and apple denial of issues)
gen 2 butterfly = fail (.....and apple denial of issues)
gen 3 butterfly = fail (.....and apple denial of issues)

why would you think gen 4 butterfly would be any better?

I would be happy enough they release an updated mpb without touchbar, that.. well beggar's can't be choosers.

Please, please, please, No butterfly keyboard. We don’t care what promises you make this time around that now you’ve fixed that junker. You’ve said that too many years in a row.

I’d like an updated no-touchbar MBP 13. Touchbar is a terrible addition to an even worse keyboard.
It will have a butterfly keyboard.

It just dawned on me that the Touch Bar is prepping Macbook users for keyboard-less touch pad screens.
The release of iPadOS and devs being able to create MacOS and iOS versions of apps concurrently makes me think it's inevitable the Apple will launch an ARM based laptop.

So even if you set it to show function keys all the time, you have to wake it up if you want to press one. Craven stupidity, and insulting on a "pro" computer.

That's my biggest gripe on the touchbar. And of course there's no option if you want a 15" MBP (or a 13" with 4 ports), the touchbar is forced on you.

No butterfly keyboard; with Ice Lake processor; (bonus, with USB-A, SD card slot, and HDMI;) then I'm a buyer. Otherwise I'll have to get a Windows laptop this fall. Touchbar I can go either way, though I don't want to pay a premium for what so many people say had not turned out to be so useful.

The keyboard is far and away the biggest thing stopping me from getting a MacBook Pro.

Again, basically the Non-Touch Bar MBP 13" getting Dual Core IceLake update. along with new keyboard design and max 32GB Memory.

I think the MacBook Air Retina 's thermal design is aimed for something less work intensive.

If it is a truly redesigned machine, they might have a dual-core base model with 16GB RAM, and a quad-core model with 32GB RAM.

Quad-Core option would be nice, however, I am just speculating because I am not even sure if Intel has a quad-core chip that could go in either a 13" MBP, or a 16"?

Intel has missed so many deadlines, I do not even pay attention to what they have in their "pipeline." When they release a new chip, I just say "okay," let's see the benchmarks...

Edit: I agree with you 100% on the rMBA's thermal design. It is mostly aimed at browsing the web, email, social media garbage. The usual things that do not require "Pro" power AT ALL.

Given the new mac pro actually has decent memory expansion capabilities and decent GPU options, maybe they'll give us a macbook with DIMM slots?

I know, i know, hell will freeze over first.... but the gap between "pro" notebook and pro desktop right now is ridiculous.

Refreshing the non-TB 13” MBP seems like an odd choice, since the machine serves no legitimate purpose in the MB lineup now that the MBA has been updated with a Retina screen.

Sure, you get a higher clock speed in the nTB MBP, but I doubt pros or even prosumers would opt for a dual core machine. So, you’re really just splitting the entry-level 13” market across two lines.

Then again, Mr. Cook has been more than willing to sacrifice simplicity/parsimony for Apple’s bottom line, so the machine must sell well enough for a refresh.
It’s going to be a quad core, 15w CPU with Iris graphics.
Much better performance than MBA, still not as powerful as the TB MBP with 28w CPU & Iris Pro graphics.

Not Dual Core, Quad Core.

Judging on the serial numbers that are listed in the on-line FCC documentation (C02Y4006L59F, C02Y3009L5C1, C02XR00DL54Y) three different Mac Book Pro models were tested, with two different versions of macOS.

BTW you can also pull images from the website. You just need to be smart (use older documentation to get an idea of standard links).

Intel doesn’t make 15w dual core CPUs anymore.
It will have to be a quad core.
