Obsolete means “we have no replacement parts” and Vintage means “replacement parts aren’t being manufactured anymore, so parts availability is restrained”. You also didn’t address my second point, which was that Apple isn’t going to do something so stupid as “try to get out of providing support for a HomePod hardware flaw early and thus knowingly incur the wrath of lawyers and regulators, especially in this political environment*”

* All the tech firms have a target on their backs because governments around the world have decided, “they think they’re in charge, so we should make an example out of them, show them who’s boss”. You’d have to be really stupid to try to pull something you absolutely know will incur significant legal wrath just to avoid servicing some likely still made overheating diode for a customer who’s paying out of warranty repair fees. This is the major flaw of most conspiracy thinking, it runs afoul of Occam’s Razor.
well that's what a college student thinks.

I still love my pair of OG HomePod and use them regularly. However iPhone X and original AirPods are in the box as part of my collection for years.

I love the sound on these things, esp stereo-paired with our ATV for movies/shows/sports. Unfortunately, we had three that went into the dreaded flashing "+ -" death trap. Nothing you can do at that point but recycle them at Apple. I tried so many different troubleshooting tips on the web. :-(

I'm looking elsewhere for sound systems whenever we upgrade in that department. It's a lot of money for something that can brick at any point. (Still have 2 minis that function well, but they not anything as a stereo pair compared to the larger HomePods.)

I have 2 Original Home Pods paired to my AppleTV in my home theatre (living room). They have been the best sounding speaker system that I have used that are wireless (wifi or bluetooth). I needed a wireless system because I am using a projector on a wall that you can walk in front of so no cables. I have mounted them on the wall with brackets made for the HomePod and just plug them into AC.

I wonder how popular the X was? I work in a fairly affluent job and only know one person I know bought it. Everyone had the 8 Plus. I didn't see them out and about very often.

Still using my X. Does everything I need and none of the subsequent models have had any killer upgrades. Face ID, OLED screen and nice to hold in the hand. Handled the 15 in the Apple Store and it's pretty clunky in comparison.

I kept my X for almost 7 years. By far the longest I had single iPhone. There was never any reason for me to pay the ever increasing price for a new phone, since the X did everything I could possibly want plus some in a mobile phone. The only reason I upgraded to 15Pro was due to Apple's ending support for the X. I plan to keep this for a long time as well for the same reasons, but I do agree it is clunky and unevenly weighted with the camera mountain.

Love my pair of space gray original HomePods. They complement my Samsung Q70 soundbar system beautifully. My only beef is that controlling the volume of both is a little finicky and requires me to go into the Apple TV control center to select/deselect each one for output if I want to get the overall volume just right. But the resulting surround sound makes it so worth it. I will rock those things in my basement media room setup till the day they die or when Apple no longer allows them to work with any of my modern hardware, whichever comes first.

I have a stereo pair in the bedroom that I use for TV audio. Will ride the "vintage" wave until they die and then look into something else.
Yeah, I'm in a bind where I have one 1st Gen HomePod and would like to make a stereo pair -- but my options are to either buy a used 1st Gen off eBay (knowing it's probably got a limited lifespan for new features, etc), or buy two new 2nd Gen ones. Thinking I'll just tough it out with the one until it dies or something, and then get two. By then maybe there'll be a 3rd gen.

I'm curious is anyone still using the 1st gen Airpods? The battery must've been super degraded at this point.

Getting a brand new 2nd gen pair is cheaper than replacing the batteries on the old ones.

Loved my iPhone X. Used it for almost 6 years then bought the 15PM to replace it. Never had any issues with the X except for a battery replacement from Apple at year 4. 15PM has been a excellent step up in every respect, but I'll always respect the 6S and the X as outstanding phones that I used for extended periods of time..

Damn this kinda news makes me really reluctant to continue buying into their ecosystem. A speaker I bought 4 years ago is now "vintage"? So that's what 2 years before it's obsolete?

I wish they would let you pair the full size homepod with the minis to give more of a true surround sound. I feel like that shouldn't be that hard for apple to implement since you can already pair 2 full sized or 2 minis.

Hopefully there will be ones without, since these are just speakers for my Apple TV. Maybe they'll do some kind of sound bar type form factor for that.
Would love one that doesn't have a screen. Maybe a sound bar type device with a built in apple tv.
