I guess the 6 family members of my wife's student who died was just a hoax?

Damn straight. I live in NY and I don't want you bringing your lack of human decency here! Stay in your states and practice your "freedom" to not care about others.
I want to believe that those who are posting “it’s a hoax” are just trolls. It scares me to think anyone truly believes that. The scariest part is that people are dying, or in danger of life-long health problems due to ignorance - or even worse, selfishness.

It’s also scary that so many people will remain unemployed as long as the virus keeps spreading like this.

Great. Apple releases the most unreliable keyboard in the history of the company, then closes down the shops where you can get it repaired.
And just at the moment when everyone is relying on their home machines.

As noted the ‘Leawood’ location is in Kansas; In the same metro area of Kansas City, but just on the other side of the state line. Unfortunately I work in a retail store just a stones throw from that location!

or just let them fail. Nothing of value will be lost.

People’s livelihoods will be.

There is a definite bias in how the economic impact of this pandemic is hitting businesses.

Economically, if you want the free market to choose the winners and losers rather than let the short term impact of the virus make those decisions, then you need to provide life support to the business that the virus response impacts most.

Morally, if you have an objection to certain types of businesses in your area then it should be resolved through public comment, legislation and regulation, not viral opportunism.

Pragmatically, if we put an unfairly outsized economic burden on specific individuals or make them feel targeted at a vulnerable time, then they are going to resist making the sacrifices we all need them to in order to protect the public health.

And the more businesses we let fail the more systemic this recession will become and the harder it will be to restart and return to normal. Those bartenders pay rent to landlords who buy computers from companies that hire software engineers who buy houses built by people shopping at hardware stores, etc, etc...

I'm suspicious of some of the reasoning given by Apple once again, especially since Baltimore is a weak Apple market to begin with, but the Washington, DC are had more COVID outbreaks and still does, yet those stores remain open as its a much bigger market and much more profitable. I sense another Tim Cook bean counter move here.

I like everything you said except the last part. People do not have a constitutional right to risk others lives. As my 10th grade American History teacher said: "Your rights stop at the tip of my nose."
I'm not native language, but it seems to me you both are writing the same thing...

I can't understand why I can't purchase a special-built MBP online and have it delivered to one of my local Apple Stores.
I've done it the past.

Once last November, and one I picked up in January 2020.

I called Apple sales and one rep said it had to do with anything coming from China being quarantined and it wasn't feasible.

I called up a few days later to ask if the iPhones were from China, because I'm buying one from Verizon, to which the rep said they were from China.

I then told him what the previous rep said about quarantining and he said that was silly and that wasn't the reason for not being available for in-store P/U.

So which/what is the catch?

Is it because the special orders are assembled in China, which could be a high-risk for recent human touching?

I am so desperate to order and receive my MBP, but I don't want to have it shipped to me.

The problem is all the numbers are lies, testing centers are reporting 100% positive for thousands of tests, its impossible.. So all this re-closing and stuff is all based on fiction and lies...

We all know Texas blatantly lies with their numbers.

The latest study from Yale shows Texas has 55% of deaths unattributed to COVID-19.

The U.S. is lying in general with massive undercounts. The real question is, which state, if any is not lying.

You don't need to wait for the car wreck before saying it's irresponsible to drink and drive...

What's happening inside the park is only part of the issue. It's also a travel magnet pulling people from all over into the heart of an epicenter and nobody needs that right now.
Give me a break. You’re worried...stay home.

Some people want (have) to work, have fun, and live life...while taking reasonable precautions.

If we are going to regulate all “irresponsible” acts through massive government direction, the list is long and Covid isn’t even at the top of the list.

This does suck, but shutting down doesn’t work because you just have to restart...unless you propose shutting down until there is a vaccine which is utterly insane.

We need people following precautions and distancing at some reasonable levels. Disney is doing a phenomenal job.

Lol, Baltimore is a weak Apple market? Proof to substantiate that claim? How could you possibly even know that and why would it make any sense?

It's not about being worried, it's about being responsible. I'm not at any real significant risk myself, but I understand that other people are. Staying home doesn't help. That's the point. Someone else's irresponsible acts puts everyone else at risk. Nursing home staff need to shop for groceries and take care of their kids. The more virus there is around them, the more likely they are to carry it into their work.

Every interaction we have increases the prevalence of the virus. There are interactions we must have (grocery shopping, health care, etc) and interactions we don't need to have (Mr. Toad's Wild Ride). Reducing the unnecessary interactions make the necessary interactions safer.

Shutting down does work, if people take it seriously. You don't need to shut down until a vaccine is found. That's a straw man designed to make any effort at a shared struggle look futile. Plenty of countries have gotten the numbers down far enough that they can start reopening safely. Several states have. For whatever reason, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona and a few others decided to open before they had things under control.

Visiting the happiest petri dish on earth is a pretty selfish reason to put thousands of people at risk.

In some cases it might not even be so much that as it is reopening too quickly/much and/or without enough proper realistic procedures in place basically everywhere that need to be followed and are actually enforced.

No one needs to go to Disney World, unless it's your last make a wish request, even then...
The mistake the USA made was not 100% shutting down non essentials services, make a plan on how to reopen, and serious punish people who don't follow the rules. Now you have this mess of people going back to "normal" and then back into quarantine. Americans have this false sense of "Freedom" and entitlement which further cements it as the most hated country in the world. People will die, people HAVE to die, so others can realize that pride and nationalism will do nothing to protect them from fatal viruses. Now is the time to come together, put all differences aside, even if you don't agree or believe in the laws in place. If the virus doesn't kill you, your fellow neighbor will if the whole country begins to fall apart.

What you’re saying, in short, is “it’s a small world after all.”

Actually, a lot of what you say is not necessary is someone’s livelihood. Kind of the way the economy works. Very necessary. Entire industries depend on people doing things other than grocery shopping and going to the hospital.

Your solution is fine short term. This virus isn’t going away, likely even after a vaccine. See the flu.

The new reality is taking precautions and living your life...

Also, psychology is a real thing. You can only be quarantined for so long before you are depressed and other secondary effects set in.

This is of course separate from the kind of obvious need for purpose, work, money, socializing, and the broader economic implications.

Other countries, yeah OK...like China with 90,000 cases? I totally believe it. I know significant groups of people from China personally that say there is a 100% chance all the info out of there is a total lie. All of the numbers are reported in varying methods and certainly have questionable accuracy and transparency.

This is the new reality and the economy (including the fun stuff like Mr. Toad) will need to adjust.

Yeah, great logic. Let’s expand on it. No one “needs” many things. We actually need very little.

What did you eat today? You didn’t need that little indulgence like those chips or ice cream in the comfort of your home. Did you need Netflix? All of those things require many interactions in the supply chain from gathering raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, maintenance, etc. All those interactions are potential virus spreaders.

With your logic, everyone should be on government supplied rations and water to be collected once a month with coupons.

People love throwing stones, but they have their little pleasures they don’t want to give up and refuse to see the full picture because it’s not a family vacation destination and requires a little more deep thinking to understand.

You have plenty of wants and expect them to continue, so chill.

How long will this hoax continue? God bless this country!
People like you have me scratching my head... what exactly is the hoax?

I live in NYC and I’m just waiting for Cuomo, Murphy, and Lamont to close the tri state area from the rest of this country.

We spent months in quarantine and went through hell being the epicenter back in April. I’ll be damned if I have to go through this all over again because some of the people in this country suck and need to flex their constitutional rights about going out or not wearing a mask.
there is nothing in the Constitution about wearing a mas
Herd immunity will give you the answer you want.
yeah no... the antibodies produced to fight COVID 19 diminish significantly within 2-3 months so there is no herd immunity, there is no "vaccine" in the true sense of the word.... You can get sick more than once.

Apple is re-closing eight more retail stores across the United States, in the states of Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Apple Towson Town, Maryland

According to Michael Steeber on Twitter, the following stores will be closed from today:
  • Leawood (Leawood) – Kansas
  • Towson Town Center (Towson) - Maryland
  • Country Club Plaza (Kansas City) - Missouri
  • MacArthur Center (Norfolk) - Virginia
  • Lynnhaven Mall (Virginia Beach) - Virginia
  • Bayshore (Glendale) - Wisconsin
  • Hilldale (Madison) - Wisconsin
  • Mayfair (Wauwatosa) - Wisconsin
Six of the 28 stores in California that have not yet re-closed are also reportedly returning to curbside service. They are Valley Fair and Oakridge in Santa Clara County, North County in San Diego County, Roseville in Place County, Arden Fair in Sacramento County, and Santa Rosa Plaza in Sonoma County.

Steeber notes that all the above California stores are in indoor malls that were forced to close, being located in counties on the state monitoring list.

With coronavirus outbreaks across the United States continuing to spike, Apple has been forced to re-close many retail locations that had previously reopened, with stores in Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, and more shuttered at the current time. In these locations, Apple is asking retail employees to work remotely in work from home support roles that the company has been offering since March.

Retail employees are able to serve as support advisors to handle online service requests and questions from customers unable to receive services in store.
