Well, they could do like a mini every 3-4 years or just make the iPhone SE the new iPhone Mini

I'd be all for a Mini SE because it would tick all my boxes, but I'm quite convinced the next SE will he based on the XR or the 11 once they remove the notch from the regular lineup.

That said, I hope I'm wrong!

I think a 2 year cycle makes sense. Seems clear there won't be a 14 mini though, so trying to decide if I'll purchase a 13 mini to replace my 12 mini or wait it out.

I'm a small phone guy myself, but I just don't see the market for a pro device in that segment when even the regular-specced variety is struggling at the price point.
I have no insight into the numbers, but “people didn’t want a low end small iPhone” is not evidence that people don’t want a high end small iPhone.

So far people have had to choose between small and high-end. Who knows what would happen if they could have both.

13 or 12s ?

i always assumed 13 was unlucky

Lol,..to who?? Its actually my lucky number, and clearly not to Apple either,..you don't recall iOS 13? 🙄

Is there a no. 13 house in your street,..do buildings not have a level 13, is there no phone number with 13..so over hearing the rediculousness of people thinking there won't be an iPhone 13..its just a number people.

Went from a 2-year cycle to a 3-year cycle now to a 4-year cycle. Even after 4 years my 8+ 256GB is a fantastic device, but looking fwd to a 13Pro Max
I was on a 2 year cycle until the 6S which I'm still rocking after 6 years. I'm genuinely surprised it will receive another year of support. I'll be upgrading to the 13 Pro as soon as it launches though, it's definitely time. Although the 6S runs fine the battery life is kaput.

It isn't a low end phone though, it's basically the regular iPhone in a smaller frame, slightly cheaper and with the expected trade offs.

So what we can say is that between those two more or less identical phones, people chose the bigger option by a significant margin.

Does this prove that there isn't a lot of demand for a smaller pro device. No of course not, but it doesn't fill me with confidence that there is this massive untapped demand.

Edit:

Before the Mini, people used the same argument to say that people had to chose between small form factor or specs, including the regular iPhone which we have never described as "low end." Tbh, I think the Mini is selling okay but not nearly as much as people predicted it would. If the rumours are true, it seems to underperform Apple's expectations. In response we seem to be shifting the goal posts to suggest that the lack of "pro" specs is holding it back.

I'm simply not buying it. I'm sure there are people for whom this is true, but I don't believe there's this large group of people who held out just because there wasn't a telephoto lens or LIDAR was missing.

I wish MR would stop referring to the entry level models of new phone ranges as "lower cost" - they aren't - they are all extremely expensive devices. There is only one lower cost phone and that is the SE.

I would like to see an iPhone 13 Mini Pro - top end HD in a smaller form factor.

The (rather dubious) renders of the iPhone 13 Pro, show a significantly larger camera bump. Power draw is unlikely to be a significant factor, but esthetics might be for Apple.

Its the low end of the iPhone 12 lineup. I suppose it’s mid range if you include the SE.

I’m not shifting any goalposts, and I’m not making any predictions or pretending I know anything about what other people want (and in what numbers). I’m not one of those people who says “if they did this it would sell like hot cakes”. I’m just pointing out faulty logic: poor sales of a small low end iPhone doesn’t demonstrate lack of demand for a small high end iPhone. People currently have to choose between small and high end - the fact they’re choosing high end doesn’t mean they wouldn’t pick both if it was an option. I’m not saying they necessarily would, I’m saying we don’t know, there isn’t evidence.

I’m getting off the pro max bandwagon this time around! I never use the camera, and my iPad Air 4 is my consumption device! Mini 13 here I come! Now if they ever release an iPad mini sized iPhone, I will be all over it!

Can’t wait for the mini this year! My biggest regret was getting the 12 Pro and not the mini!
