Its the low end of the iPhone 12 lineup. I suppose it’s mid range if you include the SE.
I’m not shifting any goalposts, and I’m not making any predictions or pretending I know anything about what other people want (and in what numbers). I’m not one of those people who says “if they did this it would sell like hot cakes”. I’m just pointing out faulty logic: poor sales of a small low end iPhone doesn’t demonstrate lack of demand for a small high end iPhone. People currently have to choose between small and high end - the fact they’re choosing high end doesn’t mean they wouldn’t pick both if it was an option. I’m not saying they necessarily would, I’m saying we don’t know, there isn’t evidence.
Apple is still selling the 11, the XR and, as you said, the SE. If you only limit yourself to the 12 lineup then you might be technically correct, but I'm really not convinced describing the regular 12 and 12 Mini as low end is justified, but let's agree to disagree on that.
On the actual point: I never claimed I had definitive proof or evidence for lack of demand. I voiced the opinion/assessment that I believe that there isn't really demand for a small high-end phone because it didn't really play out that way in the closest comparable case for which we have (sort of) data.
Is it possible that a Mini Pro would sell well? Sure. Is the only way we would ever know for certain for Apple to sell the device. Yes, absolutely. But this is a discussion forum and we have to work with the data and experience we have.
